I had dinner here on 11/19/22. I was 1 of 7 people in my group. 5 of us had pretty awful food. I ordered a medium rare prime rib. Somehow it was pink on the outside, and well done on the inside. It was overly smoked, and tasted awful. I have included a few pics of the prime rib. The mashed potatoes were instant potatoes, and had no seasoning. Wife had chicken marsala, which would have been okay, but it also suffered from the same instant potatoes. One of my friends tried the walleye sandwich. He stated that it tasted like cheap fish sticks. My friend Bob had the French Onion soup, and the ribs. This is his words on the his meal. "The French Onion Soup.....It arrived lukewarm, the onions were under cooked (not caramelized and slightly crunchy) and tasted like they were just dropped raw into some boiling Swanson Beef Broth to cook them. The broth had little flavor and I did not get any hint at all of sherry/wine. Reminded me of store bought beef broth. The Ribs....They were dry and stuck to the bone like cement. I had to saw, with serious effort, with my knife to separate the ribs. Properly smoked ribs should require just a slight tug to easily separate meat from bone whereas with these, I had to clamp down with my teeth and pull hard with portions of the meat remaining adhered to the bone. The best part of the meal were the dinner rolls/bread. They were very tasty but not enough for me to return." His wife Michelle had this to say about the chicken parmesan. "Lol. Well, I ordered the Chicken Parmesan and the chicken was dry and the spaghetti noodles were just a pile of plain noodles. I believe they were supposed to have Alfredo sauce, but it was like they took them out from the water and just dumped them on the plate. 🤷🏼‍♀️" My other 2 friends said that their food was good. One had a cheese burger, and the other friends had a pasta dish. The prices of these meals would lead you to believe you were getting a very nice meal. That was not the case. With these high prices, I don't see how I could give them another try.

This place has no aesthetic continuity. The mismatched colors, textures, and themes are visually obnoxious. Tablecloths are too short. Black cloths clash with tan napkins and wood and burgundy chairs. The chrome metal trim around the salad bar (that is a much lighter wood finish than… anything else inside the restaurant and appears to be vintage 1991) is atrocious. There is a clearly dying plant next to the piano. We spotted 5 different colors of green paint from our table. The brass accents are tired. The light fixtures are diverse enough to pass for the lighting aisle at Home Depot. Why is there a street lamp by the piano? The artwork is… not artistic. A couple of modern art prints, a large picture of ruins, and then some tacky TJ Maxx produce canvases above the salad bar. Our waiter was fine. He checked in on us often and was very friendly, but we were not about to have our entire meal remade. Our tea had some concerning floaters in it. We were offered French fries or onion rings with our sandwiches with no mention on the default chips that cost $4 less than the only options we were presented with. We received two of the same panini, one hot and one not. They were both drowning in onions and despite their namesake had no detectable trace of za’atar. The lone burger at our table was well done on one end of the patty and uncooked on the other. The pulled pork sandwich was drowning in sugar. There is no personality or pride whatsoever in what was plated up for us. The fries and onion rings were good. At ~$16/plate + $4 for fries (so $20 for a sandwich and fries) is delusional with Brick and Bourbon such a short drive away.

Let me start of by saying that Shakopee House is more than a house, it’s a home. This restaurant has been tastefully renovated and makes me want to throw on the ol flapper outfit and shake it to some jazz band tunes (which are a regular feature at this establishment). We tried multiple different meals (ribs, beef sandwich, and prime rib) and the antipasto appetizer, which were delightful and got this old boy’s mouth watering. I lost track of how many cocktails we had, probably due to the rip roaring good time they led to, but all of them were delicious and masterfully crafted. The staff were all a delight and the service was right on par with the finest dining experiences I have had. Be sure sure to take a gander at the water from the back of the restaurant, which features the finest swans and quacks nature has to offer year round. If you feel like taking a little vacation from the 1920s to the Caribbean, then rip off that flapper outfit, throw on that swimsuit, and head down to the tiki bar in the basement of the restaurant. Just like that… BAM, tropical vibes. The tiki bar features a unique food and drink menu, along with an extra surprise that I will let you discover on your little luau getaway. Overall this guy is impressed. Delectable morsels, distinguished cocktails, and delightful staff all led to an experience that I would 100% return to with my damsel.

If I could give the restaurant less than 1 star, I would. This was, by far, the worst experience we have had dining out for a long time. I will start by saying this was a group of 5 couples out for my husbands 52 birthday. We made reservations well in advance. When we arrived, it was quite busy. Totally understandable, given that it only opened a few weeks ago. The hostess was overwhelmed and confused, and it took her about 5 minutes to figure out our reservation. She apparently had already assigned us a table and it showed up that we had already been seated…even though all 10 of us were standing in the lobby. We were shown to our table (which was right in front of the piano player making conversation all but impossible). To make matters worse, I was seated on the end of the table and too close to the table next to us, so I was bumped into continuously throughout the entire meal. It took 10 minutes for anyone to greet us or bring water. Another 45 minutes to get our drinks. At that time, we placed our food orders, realizing that it may be a while before the waiter came back. The 5 men in the group ordered prime rib. The 5 women all ordered different menu items. The waiter returned to the table after taking our orders and told us that the prime rib was gone and what else did the men want instead. He didn’t bring menus back, just asked what they wanted instead? They each ordered a steak, a few different cuts. What the waiter didn’t mention was that the steaks were ala carte and came with nothing besides a chunk of meat on the plate if you didn’t order sides. The prime rib DID come with sides so we assumed the steaks would also since we were not told otherwise. Needless to say, the steaks were terrible! The food presentation was terrible as well. Only 2 of the 5 women liked their meals. We ordered fish & chips (didn’t come with tartar sauce so I had to request it), the prime rib sandwich was mostly bread and grizzle and so wet it couldn’t be picked up but had to be eaten with a fork. We asked the waiter originally if the checks could be broken down by couple and he said that was fine. When the meal was over and we told him that most of the food was not good at all (and clearly not eaten) his response was, “I’ve been hearing that a lot from a lot of customers”?? Really? And then he asked if we could just split the tab 5 ways because it was “easier that way”. Who was this easier for? Our bill with tip came to $685 for mostly inedible food, overly loud environment and poor service. I did speak with the manager, Collin, and explained how poorly our entire evening had gone at this restaurant. He was apologetic and said he hopes we give them another chance. That is...

Today, Father’s Day, is the 3rd time we have dined at Shakopee House. The first time was awesome. It was for my birthday and the service and food was amazing. It was a weekday and even with a reservation it was busy!

The second time my husband and I dined here we went on a date night without our daughter. We sat at the bar just for a different atmosphere and it was less than desirable. Our bartender took our initial order and was barely available after that. We ordered shrimp cocktail, salads and both ordered the prime rib. Everything was horrible, our drink service, the order that our food came in and our prime rib was cold. Dawn, the manager came over to talk to us and ended up comping our entire bill even though we asked her not to. However that is how bad our experience was. She begged us to comeback. Begged us to give them another chance. Today we did that, for Father’s Day with our daughter. Our server was very overwhelmed. No big deal because did not have anywhere else we needed to be. Our server was very kind however it was clear, like the last time, he did not have the support from the bar or back of house. Our first drinks took about 20 minutes, totally fine! Our appetizer, shrimp cocktail, took about 40 minutes. I am gluten free so I ordered the scallops and penne (they were offered gluten free) they came out with Penney and a completely different sauce. Totally fine but not what was on the menu and I asked our server if the this was the same dish just gluten free penne which was a yes. My husbands dish came out about 15 minutes after. I asked our server about the dish and even he was surprised. I changed to a steak and waited about 20 minutes. Unfortunately it was SO dry… We paid our bill and I asked for Dawn because I wanted her to know we came back and being a family that owns a business in the service industry I genuinely want them to do better. I watched as the server told her we wanted to speak with her and she turned around went in the kitchen. We waited about 15 minutes and decided to leave. On our way out I ran into our server. I told him we were not waiting any longer and that I was very disappointed. He said I am so sorry let me go in and get her. Then he came out and said he was told, “I am too busy and need to help the kitchen.”

When Dawn originally comped our meal at the bar we begged her not to because that was not why we were giving our feedback. She was so apologetic and seemed so genuine in her ask for us to come back because she was aware of what needed to be fixed. It is now apparent that was empty. If she is the example then there will be no improvement. This is why we will...

Dined 11/11/22 6 guests checked out at 8:17 pm. As my husband put it... we were here twice. Our first, and our last. Formerly Dangerfield's, where he loved the joint for decades... Living in the northern suburbs we met up with some southern end friends for dinner. It was good to see them but dinner wasn't great. Started out optimistic because there wasn't a parking spot to be found until several loops around. After conversing about the porta-poty outside the main entrance, we plowed our way through the crowds to find the other two couples downstairs in what looks like a speakeasy while waiting on the reservation. This dark room apparently only serves Mezcal - a smokey tequila alternative that when one of our guests inadvertently referred to it as Tequila, was chastised by the staff. "Welcome"! The six of us were seated in the bar area, packed in a booth. Couldn't hear much of our own conversation as it was very loud. Randy F, our server didn't seem excited to be there. When he asked if we were ready to order... we looked up as he vanished for a while. The cocktails and wine were good. Bread and butter good. A good start until the food came and the Walleye was bad. Tasted and smelled fishy. If you're from MN, you know this fish. Someone holding an iPad or something came by and took two plates away. Meanwhile, five bowls of mashed potato (@$5 each) were delivered unordered. There they sat because the food runners didn't know why. Randy didn't stay long enough to notice that the two of the guests didn't have food while checking on us. Hmmm. Eventually the two alternate fishy meals were replaced with the shrimp and pasta dinner. The shrimp were great, but the pasta not so much. Overcooked, mushy, dry, fat spaghetti was terrible with no alfredo sauce to be found. The gal who ordered the surf & turf wasn't disappointed after all that pasta wasn't included in her dinner choice. Lastly, the side wedge salad was fresh and great, but the sauteed mushrooms were way too salty. Interestingly, they still charged both parties for the bad Walleye, rather then the lesser expensive shrimp pasta dish and we all paid for the unordered potatoes. They divvied the portions on our split tickets. Yes, we still tipped Randy well. it's how we roll. It is simply unfortunate that in todays world of privileged establishments that still able to be open after the BS shutdowns - don't seem to value their guests or care about the quality overall in service...
