Tokyo Express — Restaurant in Shallotte

Hands-down this was the worst place I have eaten in my life! I was with two friends; I ordered a shrimp bowl and a tuna roll, my friend sam ordered dumplings and a crab roll, and my friend Cecilia ordered dumplings, a Tokyo roll, and a salmon roll. My friend sam was the only person who got exactly what he ordered. I never received my tuna roll and when I asked about it, the man did not know what I was referring to but came back and brought a shrimp roll, which smelled horrendous and tasted even worse. My friend Ceci could barely make it through her food due to the awful quality. She ended up feeling extremely ill barely 20 minutes later and still is while I am writing this. I, myself, barely made it halfway through my shrimp bowl, which consisted of shrimp, rice, and white sauce. I had to put my fork down and couldn’t even smell or look at the food about halfway through because I felt so ill. Sam was the only person whose food was decent, referring to it as “something to make my stomach stop growling but barely passable as food.” I never got my tuna roll but quite honestly, I’m thankful because it would’ve made me feel more sick. The people working could just barely understand us and that possibly could have contributed to how our orders were so messed up. I payed about $17.00 to make myself and a great friend sick to their stomachs. Long story short, we will NEVER go back there and we will think twice about going to another Japanese...

I called to place a take out order for sushi and had a question about one of the rolls. The guy that answered the phone obviously did not speak/understand English very well, so I kindly tried to ask in a variety of ways. Instead of answering my question, he only tried to confirm that I wanted to order that roll (well, not yet, I have a question about it first). He eventually just said “No” and hung up on me. I went there to go inside and explain what happened, re-ask my question, and see if there was a more detailed menu available. It was hot inside (no AC) and the sanitation grade was 92. So when I didn’t have any better luck in person than I’d just had on the phone, I decided that was my sign to go eat next door instead. Unfortunately, Tokyo Express didn’t seem concerned at all about providing good customer service or...

Went in yesterday and ordered an advertised special and told the short guy I also wanted a side salad in addition to the combo and the spring roll...when the food finally comes out, no salads...and I ask him where's the 2 salads. He said, no salads,...I said you advertise them on the board with the special, he said, but you wanted the spring rolls and I said, yeah that's right and I ALSO SAID I WANTED 2 EXTRA SIDE SALADS which I will have paid for..I mean dang, already weird enough it's a toyko Express and its run by Latino's...but put someone at the register that speaks ENGLISH and UNDERSTANDS IT PLEASE...the guy that ordered before me, ordered a steak bowl and got chicken...and in watching him attempt to converse with the cashier I knew it wasn't going to come out right...
