Burg-Dog Grill — Restaurant in Shallotte

I hate to leave a bad review for nice people but this is a restaurant and the quality of the food is the most important thing to me.

Let me preface this review by saying the people here are nice. Helpful and just seem happy to be there. It's a nice feeling.

However... When it comes to the food, I feel the quality is extremely lacking. The hot dog and hamburger buns are soggy with grease, and that is shown in the wax paper they give them to you in. The burgers taste like the old filler style McDonald's burgers that just taste fake and awful. The hot dogs aren't any better, they are flavourless and if you get chili, it tastes like the cheapest stuff you could buy at a dollar store out of a can. The fries are crinkle cut (IMO the worst of all fry types but that's not the reason I'm turning them down) but are never fully cooked to be crunchy. They're soggy and flaccid with no flavour. If you add cheese to them, you'd expect some kind of nacho-style cheese but instead you get a slice of cheddar microwaved onto the top of them. Gross. Everything here smells of grease and disgust. I honestly gag anytime my co-workers bring food from here.

I'm not saying any of this to be rude, but I do have to share my fair opinion of this place. Like I said, I hate giving bad reviews but the food here is terrible. The only redeeming quality is the niceness of the folk behind...

The hamburgers are some of the best Carolina-style I’ve had, flavorful without being over the top. I always get mine with mustard, chili, and slaw, and it was a great mix on this. The patty was thicker than most, and for that reason proved a good value. I put this on the same level as Melvin’s in Elizabethtown, which makes sense as the owner hails from there.

The hot dog was maybe 4 stars, just when compared to the burger. It had everything necessary, and was cooked on the flat top, which I really enjoy.

Service was great, and remarkably quick given our need to be in and out. Everyone was very friendly and the establishment was quite clean. You know when you find a place in a touristy area that is cash only and stacked with locals, it’s probably going to be a good find. This...

UPDATE 11 JUNE 2024 Came by on my way outta town this morning to go back home. Still cash only, still good food, still good people, and still Gunsmoke on the TV.

UPDATE 15 September 2023 still good, consistent!! Nothing to complain about

this is the best hotdog/hamburger joint in a 100 mile radius. the hot dogs just hit different and the fries are crinkled and fresh every time. and it's relatively cheap too, only averaged $9.5 per person.

so if you are anywhere in the BrunswickCo beaches area, thus place in Shallotte is fantastic to go to. . IMPORTANT!! it is cash only, so bring some cash.

Also people.. I've seen some reviews posted 3 or less stars bc it's cash only. don't do that it's just one thing that sets them apart from the rest of the businesses...
