Honestly this place is amazing. I can’t give it a perfect 5 stars for food as it has had its iffy moments. Like not iffy as in bad food, just not as great as it’ll be most of the time.
Most of the time it is absolutely amazing, but they have moments where it wavers in quality. Me saying that sounds bad, but it really isn’t. Just natural of a restaurant with different people cooking in different days, but even the lowest quality I have gotten from them trumps the best I have ever gotten from Raising Cane’s.
Before anyone thinks that maybe I went to a bad location or didn’t have it enough, I just want to let yall know I went to The OSU. Cane’s is an icon for the school and I went to almost every single location in Columbus and have tried them all. Multiple times for a bunch of sites, but just none of them compare to Huey Magoo’s.
The seasoning is so much better in my opinion and the chicken has more of a crunch. It isn’t as crunchy as like Popeyes or really good crunchy chicken and it isn’t as seasoned as some professional chicken, but it just blows Cane’s out the water.
I had a friend try Huey Magoo’s when I ordered it for us at work and he said “I think I still prefer Cane’s”. A few days later we worked together and he told me “Nevermind I was completely wrong” bc he said that comment to me before because he remembered Cane’s being better, as he hadn’t had Cane’s in like 6 months.
He went out and had some again after Huey Magoo’s and completely realized the difference in quality and taste.
He still preferred Cane’s bread and sauce which no arguments there, but trust me in me saying that if you like Cane’s then you have to try Huey to see what you’re missing out on.
Almost forgot to say that the pricing for Huey Magoo’s is so much better too as well as their app actually has rewards unlike Cane’s who do nothing for you, but up charge you for delivery on stuff like DoorDash whereas Huey actually has deals on DoorDash while already being cheaper and better tasting.
Cane’s you need to evaluate...
Read moreSince their basic menu items are comparable to Cane's, I will be comparing them to Canes.
Fries - They taste saltier despite having only a little more sodium. I like their seasoning... if you're willing to drink a lot more soda and use more ketchup. I think this is about a tie.
Texas Toast - The garlic butter they use is superior to just butter at Cane's, but while there wasn't a problem with the toast (it was definitely toasted), I like Cane's texture of crispy outside, soft inside better. I give this to Cane's.
Chicken - The chicken is definitely more seasoned than Cane's, but it's not particuarly delicious seasoning. Longhorn Steakhouse is still my GOAT for seasoning. The seasoning was also mostly lost in the sauce when dipped. I will give the slight edge on chicken to Huey though.
Huey's is also more expensive. The Cane's near me sells the box Combo for $11.99, which gets you an extra side and 1 more finger than the 3 finger meal which came to $12.58 with drink at Huey's. (That being said, I did mysteriously get 4 tenders with my meal. I'm not sure if that was an accident or because I said it was my first time there. I'm not going to complain.)
The restaraunt was extremely clean, food was prompt though slower than Cane's despite it being dead. But it certainly wasn't slow -- I'm talking about 30s at Cane's, 2 minutes at Huey's. Maybe not even that long.
Cashier was very polite and helpful, I do not remember his name though.
Cane's also has more locations. This location is near where I work, but other than that there are no Huey's near me. I'll probably add it to my rotation, however. If the value proposition was a s good as Cane's I'd probably go more often, but getting 20% less food for a dollar more isn't completely...
Read moreWe stumbled onto this place and thought the reviews looked good so we should check it out. We were pleasantly surprised! The staff was extremely attentive, explaining the menu and options and taking time while not rushing us. The food was ready FAST. I cannot emphasize that. I didn't make it to my table before they had the food ready to go. Even one of the people I was with, who had asked for grilled and it had to be made, still had their food in 5 minutes. The chicken is very tender, no weird parts or chewy bits, with a light breading. I had the buffalo sauce, which I know can vary, but this was incredibly hot (I prefer milder). The taste and moistness of the chicken is great. The fries were really good, but to be honest the best thing was the banana pudding. Best I've ever had, I'm in love! Highly recommend, but it is a smaller portion. I think it's perfect to get a good amount without overdoing it. Pricing was fair and reasonable. Highly recommend checking out this new addition. Also, the employees were a delight, checking on us to find out what we needed and a gentleman (owner/mgr?) was very open and engaging and a delight...
