This is the best chinese food I have ever had. I've been eating chinese since I was in the womb, my mother worked at a chinese restaurant the whole time she was pregnant with me. I started working at a chinese restaurant when I was fifteen and was there five years. Along with my aunt, cousin, best friend, boyfriend, and other friends. This place has the rewards and plaques to vouch for their good food, they have had best food in Shelby for ten years I believe! We have been eating here going on three years and have never been disappointed with anything here. Everything is amazing! I always get the Mandarin style beef and vegetables, spicy ginger shrimp, and two orders of cream cheese wontons. The Mandarin beef has tender meat and the best brown sauce I've ever had. The spicy ginger shrimp is something I never tried before Chen's but it. is. divine. The sauce is amazing!! And the cream cheese wontons, like everything else here, is the best I've ever had. The first time I ordered these I ate the whole box before we returned home in Cherryville. Just like all of their other sauces... The best ever! The sweet and sour is different than any other. It isnt just sweet like the rest, it has a tang to it that pairs well with the sweetness. The cream cheese wontons are most always fresh and crispy. My boyfriend always gets the honey sesame chicken which is just divine as well. Chen's sauce game is on point! All of their sauces are perfectly perfected. You can tell they have put time and effort into their recipes. They aren't just throwing a bunch of stuff in a wok with a basic sauce. They take pride in their food and they love to cook, it's evident in every bite. You can tell the difference in food that was cooked by someone who loves to cook and someone who doesnt. Chen's puts love in their food. You know most of the time when you find something you like at a restaurant, you are afraid to get something new because you know it won't be as good as your favorite dish. Well here at Chen's its different. I WANT to try everything! It is hard not to get my favorite dish though, so I usually get two:) I can't stress enough to you guys... This is THE best resturaunt around. I read the other reviews and someone gave a bad review because their chicken and broccoli didn't come in a brown sauce. Chicken and broccoli has NEVER came in a brown sauce from ANY chinese restaurant I've ate at in 35 years. That isn't fair to give them a bad review because you didn't order your food properly if you want it a special way. Complaining about an upcharge on three scallops? Every place I've ever been to that offers extra seafood for an upcharge only offers a few pieces. The people saying their food is bland and disgusting have lost their minds! I love you Chen's, keep up...
Read moreDisgusting !!!! Came in there super hungry from a long road trip and ended up disappointed. This by far was one of the worst Chinese restaurant in NC. We were given wonton chips that sat in grease with a dipping sweet sour sauce. Then we ordered Hunan chicken that turned out to be nasty, didnt look fully cooked, very tough, chewy, and didn't taste like chicken more like (mystery meat). Their so called Hunan popular sauce was very bland tasting, no flavor, and unappetizing. The lady at the counter said that was their best selling entree.. You gotta be kidding me!!! Then we thought their Lo mein was gonna be better, only to turn out to be spaghetti noodles with soy sauce and not the yellow egg lo mein noodles. We kept trying to give it a chance one after another. The place also had a strange smell to it like mop water with moldy smell. There must not be a word in Chinese that says BLEACH. When you sat down the seats were sticky and leftover crumbs on the seats. We tried giving it a chance especially being super hungry from a long road trip. We could not stomach it. This was an Epic fail after epic fail...Even if the food was given to me for free it would go straight to the...
Read moreI dont know how they have so many good reviews I have had lots of different Chinese food from all over the country and this place rated on my low score I ordered spicy shrimp with beef with lo mein for a side instead of rice and a hot and sour soup the most flavorless hot and sour soup I have EVER had bland and let me tell you spaghetti noodles are NOT lo mein and to add to it all for this bland tasteless meal 18.97$ the beef and shrimp where not spice at all even though you can see the peppers in it ? One of the worst chinese places I have tried and wont go back China Express down the street has better food than this at least they use real lo mein and for a good hot and sour soup I recommend I believe the name is china and hibatch in forest city off broadway they have good food as well this place was not worth it very disappointed maybe I got a day where they had a different chef I'm not sure but wont go back I provided...
