Today we went to Shelbyville to meet a friend at El Meson and eat. There were a few people inside but there were a lot of empty tables available on both sides. We asked for a table because its hard for me to get in and out of a booth but they refused to give us a table even though one side of the restaurant was void of customers. They said I had to take a booth or basically nothing, that the available tables were for six people only even though I did see tables for 4. I said we would wait on a table but they said no again, it's a booth or nothing since we were only 3 people. So we turned around and left and went elsewhere. This is a very poor way of treating customers. It seemed that they wanted us to leave and did not want to wait on us at all. We have frequented this restaurant many times in the past and this is the first time we have been declined a table and made to feel like they didn't want our business or that they even cared about my difficulty with getting in and out of booths. I doubt this has to do the covid issue since they had so many open tables. It seemed more of not wanting our business. Bottom line is they have now lost my, my husband's and my friend's patronage. Shame on you El Meson for not meeting our request for a table and not caring. I would have given no stars if...
Read moreMy sister is new to Shelbyville and I live in Indianapolis. My sister had to pick up an RX at CVS. We asked the lady working in the pharmacy if she could recommend a good Mexican spot. So here we are and she was right. Started out with a marg and pina colada for my sister. I didnt think there was much alcohol in it because I couldn't taste it. Half way through I was proven elsewise ;-) Loved the chorizo queso. It was a large serving as well. We ordered the Meson special fajitas with chicken, shrimp, steak and chorizo for two. (forget name) OMG! It was SO good and could have fed four people. Check out that pic and video! We took a LOT home. As Maria walked through the restaurant, most of the patrons watched in amazement as it sizzled by. She was a great waitress btw...I am a water drinker so I really appreciated the huge glass of water they served. We can't wait to go back. M-Sat they have lunch specials. They have 99 cent tacos on Tuesday. They had evening and margarita specials available as well. We are looking forward to my next visit to Shelbyville so we can enjoy this...
Read moreWe stop at Mexican restaurants when we are on road trips. It’s gotten to be our thing. This one is rated kind of mediocre. We went to other one first, it was packed, lots of families, lots of chidren, a wait line, and no bar. So we went to El Meson. The food was no authentic, used bell peppers and such, but very tasty. Where other’s will charge you if you want sour cream, the nachos hear included more than a half cup of sour cream. Americanized, yes but delicious and plentiful. But, best of all, the Margaritas were great. They had several “top shelf” options available but they custom mixed them right there in front of you. You could see the ingredients they used, no pre-mixed stuff, squeezed the lemons and added the liquors including Grand Mariner. $12.99 for a big one and it was all you needed. Will be a rising star for those who want a more adult atmosphere and very good Margaritas. Also, we have never been asked by so many bartenders, waitresses and owners if everything was ok or if we needed anything else during one short meal. Very attentive,...
