Hands down the best Mexican place in Shelbyville and probably one of the best restaurants overall. Augustin’s was good, but Cholulas always has better salsa and enchilada sauce. My friends and I have collectively had most of the menu over the years. I’ve never had anything bad. Period. We’ve had cool cheese, but some people are super picky about if things have been microwaved etc and I just ask them to microwave it. Their pork is fantastic, salsa is always fresh with cilantro, onion, and just the right mix of chunky and spicy. The ONLY complaint is the service. Sometimes it can be really hard to get refills on chips and salsa and I feel like I’m annoying them by asking or you can wait a long time between drinks and ordering. I don’t know if they need more servers, or what, but this has been an ongoing issue over the years. It also confuses them sometimes if you order tacos soft corn with onion and cilantro (more traditional Mexican style) but STILL want the shredded cheese that would normally come with the typical lettuce and cheese setup. It’s unusual, so I understand if on the line they just see “cilantro and onion” and assume, but I’ve been charged before for a bowl of shredded cheese after asking about it. Chimichangas are always wonderful and crispy, beef is perfectly seasoned, rice and beans are good, and margaritas are great. I wish they had more combos with a tamal but not burrito since those are my favorite. Seriously though, I’ve never had anything taste bad here. Ever. Even through takeout during Covid lockdown. Pretty sure there food got us...
Read moreFirst time ordering/eating here and placed an order 'to go'. I placed an order to them using their online menu for #18 combination dinner. Price on their website says $7.75 for that menu item. I went to pick up the food and they wanted $10.80. I showed the cashier their own price on the online menu but he refused to give it to me for THEIR price online. I asked to speak to the manager and was told he would be back in 10 minutes.....so....I waited. About 10 minutes later the cashier tells me the manager is not coming in today (on a Friday evening, really? No manager?).....so I paid the price of $10.80 because I was hungry and by then I did not feel like going elsewhere. This is NOT the way to treat a customer. As with anywhere one shops....if the price listed on the item is different than the actual store price...the customer ALWAYS gets the posted price on the item. If prices have changed then it is managements responsibility to update their online menus. They should have honored their online...
Read moreI stopped here while traveling for work, based on the Google reviews. I'm not sure why so many people have it 5 stars. The dood was exactly what I would expect from an authentic Mexican restaurant- decent enough to eat, but nothing to go out of my way to have again. There were no drink specials on this particular night, and the server seemed confused when I asked. I ordered the blue margarita. I expected it to be frozen, but I was pleasantly surprised when it came on the rocks. It was a little on the strong side, but I prefer them that way. My food came out insanely fast, and very hot. All of it was pretty bland, especially the rice. The atmosphere here is a little awkward. It is in a strip mall, so the space is narrow and it has ceiling tiles and florescent lights. But the most awkward thing is that they were clearly streaming music from Spotify or Pandora because there were random...
