It's a mystery to me why I continue to eat here. ..... To be fair. The buffet is always full of hot food, the place seemingly has always been clean and the food has always been consistent. NOW to critique, the full hot food buffet usually consists of the left overs from what I hope was only the evening before. The food isn't spectacular but merely mediocre and that would also be true had everything been cooked on the day I was there eating. It's like the owners have adopted our western ways of quick, cheap, and inexpensive. But don't be fooled they still price the food as if your experiencing the cuisine in there very own Chinatown restaurant. With Authentic Chinese mom n pop cooks who have dedicated there lives to build an empire of the most flavorful, fresh, tongue slapping cuisine that even life long residents still eat and are in awww by the flavors and textures they present. KING BUFFET ....... no sir don't get your hopes up. You will find that the servers are a bit smug and I don't speak for all of them but the vast majority? Yes! I've still continued to come back time and time again.... why? Well my only answer is we live here in Shelbyville and we desire the Chinese cuisine as part of our diet twice maybe 3 times a month. But the alternatives are the place by Kroger.....I won't even say there name for I would hate to give anyone the idea to try there food. Wonderful people, excellent service but the food is awful. Or we could travel 35 or 40 min to indy and wind up paying to much for a meal that isn't much better than the food at King Buffet. So location location location that's why they have managed to pull my family in a few times a month in hopes that things will change. I don't expect they will though and I'm sure I'll go back but I'll complain about it too my wife until she tells me to shut up and cook dinner if I don't like it. And I'll huff and puff and act like I'm the tough one and I can cook a meal that would be impressive if I wanted to..... but the truth is once I'm done and I realize the job that cooking will entail. I just holler at the kiddos to load up and off we go to another not so wonderful overpriced meal at King...
Read moreI just love the food and you can't beat the deal. Is Sushi alone would cost more than what they charge for the buffet. I previously penalized them for not being open during covid as seen below but I'm not holding them responsible anymore Previous post Didn't get to eat here today. I've love their food but today they had a sign on the door saying basically "All patrons must wear a mask while getting food from the buffet". Personally, covid aside, I love the idea of people at the buffet wearing a mask. It's just sanitary. Similar to requiring the use of a new plate with each trip to the bar. That a gain is good sanitary practices. Here's the problem. We are in a non-required mask period. This means that, like myself, alot of people aren't carrying masks around with them. If you want to require buffet masks then you should supply disposable ones and post that info on your door with the sign. Not only did I walk away but I've watched 2 others do the same thing. It's not that wec are against masks, we just don't carry them with us. That sign has probably cost you enough money that you could have bought 1000+ disposable masks. Heck, raise the price 10 cents and provide them if your running a tight budget. Again, this is not an anti-mask thing. I doubt you could find a person that would be against wearing a mask while at the buffet, Just like noone complains about having to use a new plate. However, that would be a different outcome if you posted on your door, like you have about masks, BRING YOUR OWN PLATES. Again, love the food but I don't carry what you require. I'm leaving 3 stars so you notice this post but your food...
Read moreAfter looking at reviews online for over an hour to try and find a Chinese buffet that didn't sound like it was going to be a waste of time, the family, boyfriend, and I decided on this place. We had to drive about 40 mins, out of town, to get there and honestly, was it worth that? No. But aside from it not being worth the drive I'd say it was pretty much your average Chinese buffet. They had a bit more of a selection/variety. And I will say the price was a bit cheaper than most. It'll run you around $11.50 per person. In my opinion the food is worth about $8-9 a person instead. We went around 5ish and they were very packed. Other customers were very rude and definitely overcrowded us but the staff was very nice. One thing to note about this place, that makes them stand out, is their chicken and broccoli dish. My mother ranted and raved about how good the sauce is. As well as their black pepper chicken. As long as you get it fresh. Worth stopping by if you don't live too far and want a good and clean Chinese buffet. Just try and ignore the wall that's painted very 'green...
