I grew up in the Sheridan area. I came back for a family visit and my mother and I ate at Flagstaff today. The food was good and the atmosphere is quaint, welcoming and clean. My issue is with our server, Tammy C. Here is a list of why I will never eat here again, thanks to Tammy. When we walked in and were seated, Tammy had 2 tables- but it still took her 10 minutes to take our order, because she was seated at another customers' table and was engrossed in conversation with them. Mid way through our meal, sge attempted to take my mother's plate- while she was still eating from it. She was super anxious for us to leave, which is interesting, because it was about ten minutes past one, and the café closes at 2. Another customer was sat at the table next to us moments later, and she moved him to another section with the excuse that they were about to close. After this, she went and sat at a customers table again. When she brought us the check, it was the wrong check. When we called her to the table, she immediately argued that it was the correct check. It wasnt. So she brought us the correct check, and completely ignored us when we tried to pay. We paid cash, she waved her hand and instructed us to leave it at our table- because she was so engrossed in chatting with other customers. You ended up with a .70 cent tip, Tammy. It was painful for me to do that. I was a server for over 20 years. That is the lowest amount of money Ive EVER tipped in my life. And you earned it. To the owner of this charming business- I really enjoyed your place. I love the decor, I loved the Cowboy Sandwich I had today. I DIDN'T love Tammy C. The ONLY reason I even gave you a 3 star is because of the food quality and atmosphere- because Tammy gives a 1 star experience. She is a serious detriment....
Read moreI have eaten at the PO News Cafe many times over the last 6-7 years and normally there has never been any complaints about the wait staff. At least not until this last visit.
We stopped in this week for breakfast and was waited on by Vanessa. Aside from her arms being covered in tattoos, she was passable as a waitress. This isn't her natural talent, she should be doing something other than waitressing. She doesn't have the natural persona for this line of work.
We sat down, she came over for drink orders, brought the drinks and then proceeded to visit with another customer, exchanging pictures on her phone and chatting casually with him. We were ready for our orders to be taken, but needed to wait for her to finish her conversation.
What we had here were confused priorities on her part. The restaurant was busy, it was 8:30 in the morning and she is standing around chatting leisurely with another customer about pictures she had taken.
When she walked away, I raised my hand to get her attention so that she could take our orders and in a very sharp, terse tone of voice she said "I was on my way over here". Very unprofessional.
She took our orders and within maybe 10-15 minutes we were served. She had nothing else to say to us until she dropped off the check. It was clear that she wanted us to leave and we really did try to accommodate her.
The food overall was its normal quality, with one exception. When the kitchen staff cooks poached eggs, try not to overcook them to the point the yellows are solid please. We ended up with "well done poached eggs".
Will I eat at PO News again? Maybe, if Vanessa isn't...
Read moreGrowing up here in sheridan makes me appreciate our historic and fantastic businesses like the Flagstaff cafe. I remember when it still sold magazines!
This restaurant is one of the most consistent delicious treasures that we have in sheridan. Great place for a business meeting or to meet new and old friends for a meal. What makes it awesome is the owner Mark, is always present, always says hello and always has time for a chat. Even more endearing is the fact that much of the staff has been there for years and even some, for decades! Like, Tammy, who has been a staple and smiling face for decades. I especially love that when I am trying to figure out what I am having, she has a seat with us and treats us like family instead of tapping her toe and wanting to just get my order and take off.
The iced coffee….delicious! The day maker….does what it says….love that drink!
Well done guys, the food has always been good and you always rock it from the back to the front of the house, there is no better breakfast place in...
