Crazy Sushi: Where My Empty Plate Pics Tell the Whole Story Okay, first confession—my photos of Crazy Sushi show empty plates. Not because I'm a terrible food blogger, but because everything looked so good that by the time I remembered "Oh wait, normal people document food BEFORE inhaling it," it was too late. Those gleaming empty dishes are Exhibit A for why this place is worth writing home about. I'm a Phoenix resident visiting Portland, and finding Crazy Sushi was like discovering your favorite band playing a secret show. You know that feeling when your expectations are "yeah, this'll probably be fine" and then reality slaps you with "holy crap, this is INCREDIBLE"? That's Crazy Sushi. The Space: Not Your Average Strip Mall Sushi Joint This new location is immaculate—like someone actually gives a damn about your dining experience. The centerpiece is this artificial pink cherry tree smack in the middle of the restaurant. Is it real? No. Does it matter? Also no. It creates this vibe between "traditional Japanese garden" and "that scene where something meaningful happens under falling blossoms." Suddenly you're not just eating sushi—you're having a moment. The Service: Celebrity Treatment (Minus the Paparazzi) The staff treated us like celebrities who didn't want to be recognized. Attentive without hovering. Knowledgeable without condescension. My water glass never dropped below half-full, which isn't impressive until you realize I drink water like I'm preparing for a drought. Our server actually seemed—get this—happy to be there. Not that forced "my manager is watching" smile, but genuine enthusiasm. When's the last time you saw that at a restaurant where entrées don't cost more than your car payment? The Food: Where My Taste Buds Had Their Own Party Now let's get to the main event—the Shrimp Yaki Udon. As someone who once dropped an embarrassing amount on Iberico Pork Yaki Udon at Nobu in NYC, I consider myself a udon snob. This version? It stood toe-to-toe with the big boys at a fraction of the price. The noodles had that perfect chew—not too soft, not too firm, just hovering in that magical middle ground. The sauce coated everything without drowning it, bringing heat and sweet and umami to the party. And the shrimp? Plump, juicy little flavor bombs that tasted like they were swimming happily in the ocean just hours before. My only gripe—and this is for every Japanese restaurant—what's with leaving the tails on? Yes, I can remove them myself, but wouldn't it be nice if I didn't have to do shellfish surgery in the middle of my meal? I also ordered a Crunchy Philadelphia Roll because why have one perfect dish when you can have two? The combo of creamy cheese, fresh salmon, and that satisfying crunch was like comfort food with an unexpected twist. It wasn't just good—it was "close your eyes and make involuntary happy noises" good. My sister had the Teriyaki Salmon dinner, which she described as "tender and delish," but that's like saying the Grand Canyon is "a pretty big hole." That salmon was flaky, moist, and glazed with teriyaki sauce that actually tasted homemade. My brother-in-law went all in with the Heart Attack Roll and various sushi pieces. Judging by how quickly everything disappeared, I'm guessing it was less medical emergency and more religious experience. The Bottom Line: Book Your Flight to Portland Now Here's the crazy thing—Crazy Sushi isn't just good "for Tigard" or "for the price." It's legitimately, objectively, I-would-tell-a-stranger-on-an-elevator good. The kind of place that makes you rethink your travel plans. As a Phoenix resident with no vested interest in promoting Oregon restaurants, this place should be on your must-visit list if you're near Portland. I'm already planning my return trip, and while I want to explore more of their menu, there's a 90% chance I'll order that Shrimp Yaki Udon again. And next time, I promise to take pictures BEFORE the food vanishes. Maybe. No guarantees.

To Asia standard, this sushi place is below the standard. The sushi with too much rice than fish. Typical sushi comes with a standard of number of rice grain. The sushi Chef probably didn’t train know about sushi. The sashimi like tuna like just came out from the fridge especially tuna nigiri! The spicy ramen can’t even taste the spiciness and so blend and lots of uncooked vege place on TOP of the ramen soup. The worst things for the sashimi is to add the sauce onto it and not sure why they did this.. sashimi is supposed to eat raw so can tats the freshness of the fish. The rolls here is too Creative and lost the taste of rolls.. so much sweet sauce added on.. I can’t fast the roll other than sweet sauce .. nothing impress here as they served all food at once like you can’t even find space on tour table to put on the dishes. The only compliments that the waitress are reacted to our unfinished ramen and made a refund!

We stumbled upon Crazy Sushi through a search. It’s not that close to home and we drove right past our typical places to get there. We wanted something new. We watched our places that serve good but not great sushi start to serve smaller plates, cut back on servers and increase the prices despite the drawdowns on food and service. So we figured we’d give this place a go. We will be back, we will make the drive out of downtown Portland to return. There are multiple servers, who greet and serve you warmly. The food is fresh, reasonably priced. A draft beer is $6.50 a pint and they offer beers in different sizes including spouted tanks for the table. Reminded me of Europe. Take a quick snapshot of your party with the fun camera on your way put. Yours to keep. Parking is not terrible but you have to hope for curbside near the place. Highly recommend.

The Space: Not Your Average Strip Mall Sushi Joint

This new location is immaculate—like someone actually gives a damn about your dining experience.

It was 20min to closing the staff & manager stood in a row arms folded, staring at us ! Our guest was very uncomfortable having all 7 of the staff only 10 feet from our table watching and waiting. It was a very special birthday party. They brought out the check, sang birthday song all before any of us were even halfway finished eating! 35 minutes before closing! Even though I left a 35% tip, they still rushed us long before closing. There were behaving badly, rude, we had 2 to 3 wait staff on either side of the table of 4 reaching, crossing in front of our faces grabbing plates with food still on them. still rushed ! I've worked at sushi restaurants before, never was aloud to rush customers even if they had finished eating we weren't aloud to rush anyone . Ive lived & worked in Japan never did I get instructed to stand arms crossed ,manager next to me, encouraging us to rush customers, nor did we stand 10 feet away, stairing at customers, arms folded, all 7 employees . 20 minutes before closing! We had an out of town guest, he had heard from the family how much we loved this place. I was embarrassed OUR BIRTHDAY GUESTS DIDNT get to FINSHED HIS MEAL. Over the years my extended family and I spent lots of money here. .......Sushi is not good the next day. ordered more food . treated so rudely Extreme was allowed. It was 20 minutes before closing. a Saturday night. I explained this to the manager, He just smiled and laughing, extremely Rude! I will never go back. My extended family won't be coming back...

Great sushi, atmosphere, and customer service. We have been here over a dozen times and always had a great experience, even during COVID. The food is fresh and made with care. The staff checks in on you, but not to the point where they become annoying. Sometimes they even come around with a freebee to try, which you should because its usually fantastic. One time I ordered something I had not tried before and I personally wasn't a fan of that particular roll. The server noticed that I wasn't eating it and came back with another roll to try instead. It was fantastic. When I got my check, the roll I didn't enjoy was not on the bill. I didn't ask for it to be removed, but they did it on their own just to show me that they care about my experience. That server got a great tip and since then we have recommended this place to dozens of friends, all of which have come back saying it was just as good as...
