East of Chicago Pizza — Restaurant in Shipshewana

I have had east of chicago in ohio many times and it is one of my favorites. I love the tower the best! I came to the one in shipshewana and saw they had a buffet for a competitive price and the young man at the counter told me that sometimes they do bring out the tower. I looked at the buffet choices at 5:00 and they looked decent and the salad bar looked good so we decided to give it a try. The appetizer salad I had was good and then I went for pizza-and tried about 4 times. everything they brought out was terrible and I was not the only one feeling this way since others went up and either took very little or went and sat back down. My husband finally went up and got cottage and pineapple from the salad and when I gave up on getting any pizza remotely close to interesting, the salad bins were all empty and this was only 6:30. I am in town every tuesday and wednesday and I will not get the salad bar again nor will I recommend it...

Pros. The gentleman on the phone was very polite and made sure he got everything I asked for. He was very well spoken and made ordering an ease since I was having issues ordering online. The delivery driver was polite and very kind. He thanked me generously and had a smile on his face even though the weather is terrible right now.

Cons. They forgot the dressing for my salads but there is a gas station next door to the hotel so that was easily solved. They didn't cut my pizza. So it's a big circle of pizza that I'm going to have to rip apart.

Aside from those small things I definitely give them 5 stars. The food is good. A little pricey. Overall their awesome customer service made it worth it to me. Children run the place! No manager there!

We purchased $100 worth of gift cards here for our children for Christmas. We scheduled a overnight at a hotel in town and ordered Pizza from here. We went to pick up the pizza and they told us that their gift card machine was down. So they expected us to pay for the pizzas with cash because the machine was down. They would not take the cards. They could have called the 800 number to get the balance, kept the cards and ran them when the machine was working. Which i recommended. But the children running the place weren't smart enough to realize that would work. They were acting like it was our fault and that we shouldn't be upset. There was no manager working and they would not contact the manager. Needless to say we won't be returning and we will be letting everyone we know not to eat here!
