This was our first time trying this place, and sadly, it will also be our last. I originally ordered a ham and cheese pastry, but there was a fly hovering over the display case, even landing on the food. I told the cashier, but she didn’t seem to care at all and just let the fly continue jumping around the pastries. Very unsanitary.
I changed my order to a chicken empanada instead. When I tried it, it was unexpectedly spicy. I asked the cashier if it was supposed to be spicy—she didn’t know and had to go ask someone else. When she came back, she said it “has a little kick.” I didn’t eat it and just left it on the plate. When I asked if I could exchange it for something else, she told me I could “talk to the manager,” but made no effort to assist me further. It felt like customer service just wasn’t important to them. My husband ordered a cinnamon roll, which was dry and hard. Between the poor hygiene, indifferent staff, and disappointing food, we won’t be coming back. This place looked promising from the outside, but the experience was truly...
Read moreMama G knows what she's doing. Delicious food, great bakery selection, large drink selection, affordable pricing. I loved how the place was decorated and had a little side area that looked great for working or etc. Mama G greeted us when she walked in. It felt kid friendly as we had our 2 year old and 8 month old. Mama G cooked our food and brought it to us. Ordered: schnitzel with side of gravy, bratwurst, iced matcha, a few bakery items for dessert. All were incredibly delicious and so happy with our oder. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Ordering was a little confusing. Even if you dine in for lunch you have to order at the bakery counter but once we got the hang of it we kept going back. Overall I loved this place and loved Mama G. If I lived closer I'd be here every day. Guess we will have to come back as often as possible. Definitely one of my new "go...
Read moreThis used to be my favorite bakery for fresh baked bread. Back then they were called Bavarian bread or the German bread store. I would carefully plan my Saturday mornings so I could be at the South Sarasota location before 11am when they close. I was happy when I could get them at Detweiler’s because it was closer and I could go any day of the week. You could also get them at the Mama G’s cafe by Sarasota airport. My favorites were the cranberry walnut, raisin and focaccia breads. They were very crusty, dense breads with the right layering of holes inside the bread that made it very artisanal, old world kind. Lately though the texture and quality of the bread has diminished. It is now just spongy, light and not very satisfying. I hope they bring back the quality breads that they used to make because I would make the trip and pay $$...
