Expect friendly staff and hometown service, and because they are a fixture of Siler City you feel like you walked into a big family reunion. That being said, just like at a southern family fish fry don’t show up and expect hype, frills, or anything greener than iceberg lettuce. No oil massaged kale to be found here, or perfectly pan seared scallops. They do a couple of things extremely well and own it: Fried oysters, and fried shrimp, and hush puppies… and depending on what staff, great clam strips. Now… The not so great: NOTHING is seasoned appropriately, even at a hometown fish fry you’d expect flavor. Everyone at that real southern re-union is bringing fire, because with out seasonings it just becomes a mundane plate of brown sadness that makes you question your dietary choices. I understand like most everyone else who frequently comes here that you’ll observe most of the clientele are of a demographic that don’t want food to have soul or flavor. Also it’s been really hard to get good baked potatoes here, the last few I’ve ordered have tasted overcooked or like they sat in the warmer too long. The blooming onion is hit or miss as of late, they come out undercooked towards the middle and the batter doesn’t adhere to the onion, leaving it...
Read moreThe vibe and food of Dry Dock were right on! My mom and I went to celebrate a family reunion. The staff were super friendly and warming and just made us feel right at home. They had us in the main conference/wvent room that had plenty of space for us that number about 30 or so. The waitress quickly brought out their amazing hush puppies that were shaped like union rings. They were popping hot and I decided to get their flounder filet with a side of broccoli.
The portion sizes are overwhelmingly large. I double checked with the waitress to make sure I got the regular versus the large. She ensured me that I got the regular and that the portions are just large. Wow! Super large, like Texas sized large.
The food was good as well with everything being super fresh. The one disappointment was the broccoli that was overcooked. It was such a surprise as others broccoli was cooked super well. I think because of how busy the restaurant was everything could not be evenly cooked.
I would come back for more of their food, especially the coleslaw and hush puppies. Be prepared to take home food or share entrees. It is a lot to take in, but so worth it for...
Read moreWe had dinner with a small group at Dry Dock recently, and unfortunately it was pretty disappointing for me. I'm on Keto, so I couldn't have all the yummy fried foods (which most of our group seemed to enjoy). Instead I opted for the broiled platter, and I wanted to substitute to deviled crab with extra scallops. The waitress said boiled, so I emphasized that I wanted the BROILED platter.
When the food finally came out, mine came out fried. The waitress realized it, and apologized and said they had already started making a new order for me. No big deal.
However, when the food did arrive, it was boiled not broiled. It also didn't have the extra scallops, it was extra shrimp. I didn't complain, besides I don't think English was the server's native language. This stuff happens sometimes.
I decided to just eat it, but the food was so bland. There just wasn't any flavor or seasoning on any of the shrimp, scallops, or flounder. I had to cover them with salt and pepper just to eat them.
I think everyone else in our group enjoyed their food fried fare, especially the fried...
