Tiramisu Bakery — Restaurant in Silver Spring

Okay I must say I do not usually write reviews but I had to write one this time so other may learn from this. I bought birthday cake from this bakery given I had ordered several times ( I specifically asked the gentleman to make sure it is not vegan because vegan cake is so sweet and that is not I was looking for I needed the regular Teramisu cake). Once I picked up, opened the cake in the middle of birthday celebration it happened to be vegan and also soaked with coffee almost halfway. I took the cake back so they can see, the owner couldn't even speak to me properly nor did she attempt to understand what happened. (Although the cashier tried to help I can see the owner did not bother to care!). I was asking to at least get a piece in exchange of the full cake given the game the wrong cake plus cake soaked with coffee. She said that is how it made and I should keep it in the refrigerator so it can dry. All I am saying they have zero customer service incase you run into issues. Loyalty has no value to them nor do they care about...

I've been to this bakery for 8 years. Unfortunately I understand the pandemic & inflation has affected a lot of local businesses but I don't appreciate the dishonesty or lack of acknowledgment that comes with tough business decisions. I recently went to this bakery after not having been in 10 months and I immediately noted to the host that the personal slices of tiramisu are now more than 50% smaller than what they used to be. She was taken aback and said "oh? They are?" I've seen her through out the years and was surprised she didn't even acknowledge my truth. I told her "yes, I've been coming here for many years" she didn't respond anymore. For context the prices have remained the same for the most part but the shrink-flation has really taken a toll on my wanting to come back again. To Ethiopian customers and anyone visiting this bakery, please be careful.

Whoever was working and serving customers today is not trustworthy. I came to buy a cake with my two kids, and I was distracted trying to manage them. The total for my cake was $42, but this person added a tip without my permissionand charged me $55 nearly 30% extra.

While I was paying, I noticed the tip screen, but before I could choose anything, my son called me, and the staff member quickly selected the tip from the other screen on her own. This is completely dishonest and unacceptable. She took advantage of the distraction and acted like it was normal. We went back to ask for the receipt, and she didn’t want to give it to us until we insisted.

I’m sharing this to warn others especially Ethiopian customers be careful and double check everything.
