I live in the area and have been anticipating the opening of a neighborhood brewery with a lot of excitement. I was careful not to get my hopes up too high because I know that most likely this would be yet another mediocre brewery with the usual rustic atmosphere and bar food.
I was pleasantly surprised when I entered a refreshingly bright and modern feeling taproom with lots of natural light, simple but tasteful decor, and plenty of seating even during a bit of a rush.
The set up is really interesting and works well. There is a front tap room that is more casual. Seat yourself, order at the bar, that kind if thing. But then if you make your way back there is a more formal restaurant area where you can be seated by a host/hostess and have table service. It's the best of both worlds.
The service in my few experiences has been outstanding. The food is great. Like really great. I was actually shocked by how good it was. So far from their menu I've tried the Wontons Al Pastor, the Jerked Chicken sandwich, the Fish and Chips and the bread pudding. All have surpassed my expectations and then some.
The beer is excellent as well. I've tried everything they had to offer. They just tapped a Hazy IPA that became my new favorite but before that I liked the Norwegian Table Ale the best. It's a little different from the status quo and it's very drinkable.
Overall, can't recommend highly enough absolutely wonderful experience I look forward to coming back time...
Read moreHighGrain Brewing is a welcome addition to our cities vast brewery options. My family and I arrived early on a Saturday. The inside space was rather spacious. We decided to sit at a high-top table near the bar.
A brunch menu was available, but my family was ready for lunch (also available). I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with chipotle honey marinated grilled chicken, apple onion jam, herb goat cheese, bacon pickled red onion, and 80 Acres greens ($14 with fries). This was a very good sandwich and I especially loved the combination of the apple onion jam and herb goat cheese. It had a great and unique combination of flavors.
My wife had the veggie burger made with smoked cauliflower, carrots, onions, celery & shiitakes bonded with black beans & northern white beans on a brioche bun with herb aioli, romaine & pickled red onions ($11 with fries). She really enjoyed this house-made patty that was full of veggies rather than simply black beans.
Our kids enjoyed the cheeseburger ($6 with fries), as well as the beer cheese pretzels ($10), served with house-made Saison honey mustard and white American beer cheese. A wide variety of beer is available. I enjoyed the Titan, West Coast IPA, while my wife liked the Monarch, Juicy IPA. We look forward to a...
Read moreLet me start off by saying that I had to struggle between 4 and 5 stars for this rating. I was extremely excited to try out Highgrain after hearing they were moving into the old police station in Silverton. Bravo to them for doing such a great job repurposing and reimagining the space! The service was excellent and the staff seemed extremely knowledgeable in terms of their offerings. I was only able to stay long enough to enjoy one beer, but enjoy I did. The Hazy IPA was fantastic! The haze, its fragrance, flavor and finish created a superb beverage experience. I highly recommend. The food didn't let me down either. The Pastrami was unexpectedly delicious. Now that I have heaped praise upon the establishment, my one issue comes to bear. I know they are already aware of it, but the countermeasures that they have in place are not enough at this time. That issue being the noise in the dining area. They were fairly busy while we were there and from where we were sitting it sounded as though I had a large portion of the establishment talking in my ear. More sound dampening panels are sorely needed for a more relaxed atmosphere. That being said, I will be going back often to sample more of their fine food and spirits. I hope to pop this up to...
