If you're a local you likely know of this place (if don't, you should).
If you're passing though and want a real taste of both the food and the hospitality of the folks here in South East Louisiana, then you don't want to miss this place.
It's casual. It's fun. It's delicious. It's unbelievably afforable. That goes most especially if you're old enough to where your bar bill generally rises to, or exceeds, your food bill. But also applies if you're still young enough to put away a side of beef in one sitting.
And a +1 to the "liver and onions" mentioned by other reviewers!
Now, I've eaten my fair share of liver over the years, but this place has elevated it to absolute perfection. Tender all the way through, and I mean not even a SINGLE of those "inevitable inedible" bits.
It was so unforgettably delicious that after 28 years of marriage (and unbelievable happy hour prices) I proposed an offer to my wife of a bit of my liver (referring to my dinner, of course. As one may descern from my praise of the happy hour prices, my own liver is likely of little value to anyone but myself).
But after those same 28 years of marriage (and the benefit of those same unbelievable happy hour prices) she actually accepted!
On the edge of my seat and expecting the worst, one knee dangling just above the floor ... I watched as she took the fork I handed her and said... Wow, I'd order that next time!
She won't (she loves the fried chicken), but that's enough for five stars from me... What more could one ask for?
And thanks to Marisa who took such...
Read moreI entered through the side door by the bar. I stood there for 8 minutes before anyone asked me if I needed any assistance. Although my back was to the dining area, I watched 2 waitresses, in a mirror on the bar wall, look at me twice. Neither of those women asked me if I needed assistance. I had to ask if there were any specials. I placed my order and went home, I ordered a white beans meal and pasta jambalaya meal. The white beans were good but salty. They had a nice flavor, but the bean to rice ratio was completely off. It was as if I were eating bean soup. I was a bit disappointed with you with the jambalaya pasta. The flavor is fine, but I DO NOT like spaghetti noodles for this dish.
It's a cute diner/cafe. I don't want you to think that I disliked it and won't return. I'll give it another try. There were quite a few people in there; it just wasn't busy. By the time I arrived, everyone had their food already. I did notice how great the customer service was with the people who were dining in, I just didn't receive that same enthusiasm. I'll try it again at a later date and...
Read moreEdit: my wife let me try her shrimp and cream sauce this time and OMG its delicious. Everything is always so well balanced. Bonnie Cs is definitely a favorite.
I normally would never order any kind of marinara or spaghetti sauce when I got out to eat. It usually lacks flavor, is too acidic, or is too watery. But 1 day i had a craving for some eggplant parmasan when we were ordering from Bonnie C so, against my better judgment, I ordered it. Sorry, Bonnie, but Ive been hurt many times before.
Yall... they have the best HANDS DOWN fried eggplant and their marinanara sauce is unfreakingbelievable i kid you not. It is thicc, on the sweeter side, and is not at all acidic. Its perfect. I've since tried the veal and man, it is equally as amazing. Im ordering it again tonight for the 3rd time in 2 weeks and figured it was time to come pay my respects.
I've also had their red beans and theyre pretty good too. (But mine are better! 😁) But YALL TRY THE...
