We just moved to the area and had really high hopes as there aren't many options in the area. I will preface this by saying they were fairly busy but no wait, and seemed to have at least four servers.
We were seated immediately but it took our server a while to acknowledge us. It was A mature blonde. She repeated multiple times how everything was made in house, which had me excited to try. By the time she came back to take our drink orders we had plenty of time to look at the menu so we've placed our food order as well. People sprinkled in a table at a time after us. We waited probably 25 to 30 minutes to get our food. Husband's Burger was overcooked And said it came with a fried chicken breast when in fact it is just the top of a chicken tender cut in half. For $18 there's a brewery down the road that has a much better burger. My sandwich was soggy And overall not much flavor other than salt. Our server never came back to check on us ( other than immediately after dropping our food as she brought food to the next table) Which also shows me the kitchen isn't working properly as none of the tables sat at the same time and everybody got their food at the same time.
We had empty plates and stacked our own table and still hadn't received our check. She finally came back and said oh I could just take you out the register, where I asked a question about a bakery item. She didn't have the answer right away so I asked if there was a way to find out. She told me I'd have to wait 10 minutes but the icing comes from Sam's club so I could look that up. So that led me to believe it's obviously not homemade.
Overall, for a $70 lunch I would probably take my money elsewhere. I will always give a restaurant a second try, And my update the review at that time. I will try to go to different time of day as well.
I'd also like to add that the responses by whoever is handling their social media is absolutely disgusting and the least professional that I've ever seen a business...
Read moreY’all, Burrito says this is like stepping into a small town from any Hallmark movie. Think hometown, born country, southern hospitality, and calories don’t count here. If I hadn’t come with mine, you might just find ya husband, or the small town love of your life. Dumpling says small town feels and moves at a small town pace, but worth the wait and time. The hush puppies were good, but the herbed butter was the star of that show. We split a club sandwich on tomato basil bread and onion rings for the side; we split this and did not leave hungry. Solid onion rings. We left with a loaf of that tomato basil bread, cookies, a cupcake, and other bake goods. We also got a slice of their chocolate cake cheesecake, slap yo momma, this is everything Burrito wants in a cheesecake - the flavor, texture, consistency, down to the graham cracker crust, I can’t even tell you the last time I had cheese cake so authentically what I was looking for and ate the crust. We would definitely return, not...
Read moreWe’ve been eating at this cafe for a few years now and it never seems to disappoint. The food is excellent, the prices are reasonable, the portions are huge, and the service is always with a smile. We were extremely privileged to have the owner as our server today, so we asked about the history of the cafe. The building was built in the 1830’s and still has a lot of the original features. Carolyn made it into a quaint home town cafe when she purchased it in 1994. We toured the upstairs where they were getting ready to have a “Tea”. We were pleasantly surprised at how beautifully it had been renovated from an apartment into a place where they can seat and cater to up to 30 guests. When we started out for breakfast this morning, we had no idea we would discover even more wonderful hidden gems about our favorite Cafe. If you or Guy Fieri of “Diners Drive-in’s and Dives” are ever in Smithfield Virginia, it will be well worth it to stop in and eat at the Smithfield...
