The visitors center is the best place to start. The wonderful man we spoke with was informative, funny and so kind! He suggested we visit the courthouse, museum and take the self guided walking tour. The courthouse was terrific. The docent we meet there was so interesting. She answered all of our questions and gave us tons of history about the building in town. We made our way to the museum. Read moreI moved to Smithfield permanently this year after falling in love with the time warp that is the historical district. That two mile stretch of small shops, cafes, and historical sites holds some of the best people I’ve ever met. Genuine small town right here, scenery is just an extra bonus! They still have small town parades, the Main Street shops support each other (I run Serene Tree Apothecary at 235 main) and often refer their own customers over to my newly opened spot. Read moreAlways enjoy walking around Smithfield when in town visiting with my daughter and granddaughters. Folks hide painted rocks to find and either keep or hide them again for others to find. There is a Facebook page you can show the rock and where you found it. The what I like to call, the interactive statues, sit and take pictures with Ben Franklin. They are amazing detailed.
