The aroma of the restaurant already led me to believe the food would be delicious, and it was! We were first served with rasam starters (for free), which had a lovely savory tomatoe-y flavor and whet the appetite.
We ordered ghee dosa, which came with coconut chutney, mint chutney, and sambar. The coconut chutney wasn't spicy -- it had a lovely coconut flavor, and the mint chutney was just the right texture (the kind you can coat a piece of dosa with), not watery at all like some mint chutneys I have had from other restaurants. The sambar was also delicious. The dosa itself was just the right thinness in order to be crispy on one side, with enough batter to make it a little fluffy on the inside. The batter had been fermented just long enough to get a lovely flavor out of the lentils. Beautifully done!
One of our orders was the Mysore dosa, which had a sauce coated on the inside of the dosa that was mildly spicy and very flavorful.
We also ordered Palak Paneer and the Eggplant Ennagai. The Palak Paneer was really good: it is not your average palak. I think they may have blended cilantro in with the spinach mixture, and possibly some tomatoes. The spices in the sauce were distinct but went together really well, and the ginger slivers that came on top were just the right touch. I liked the Eggplant Ennagai as well -- it was not as phenomenal as the Palak in the spice flavoring, but I definitely liked that the eggplants were well-cooked, and the sauce was a tasty tomato-based sauce.
Finally, we ordered the masala chai, which came unsweetened. It was nice, although I personally prefer my chai to have a little stronger spicing. Nevertheless I enjoyed the masala chai with a little bit of sugar stirred in, and it felt like the perfect way to finish the meal.
I also should mention that they had a contactless menu that was easy to use, and their entire system was paperless; the server put in the orders on an ipad, and used it to pay as well.
I am so sad that I do not live in Washington State, because I would definitely make this place my to-go Indian eatery!! I can't wait to come back to visit Washington and eat at...
Read moreAahaar did the catering for my wedding (200+ guests) and I cannot say enough about what an amazing experience it was working with Ramya and Ajay! It makes such a big difference to love both the product and the vendors when you are working on a wedding, and with Aahaar we loved both! The quality of the food itself was mindblowing - we did a pretty traditional South Indian vegetarian meal with some customized elements like specific beverages and dessert requests. My husband and I are from two different cultural backgrounds and Ramya was able to make beverages for each of us that represented our wedding in a really unifying and touching way.
I also really appreciated the way the Aahaar team provided input and suggestions as we went through developing the final menu, and I was honestly so impressed that all the feedback and brainstorming we discussed during the tasting was implemented perfectly at the wedding without missing a single detail! My husband and I were really impressed by the level of service and the attention to detail that Aahaar brought to the meal - they did a venue walkthrough to understand the day-of flow, and plated and presented all the dishes in a really beautiful way. My guests did NOT stop raving about how great the food tasted after the wedding - it's something that keeps bringing a smile to our faces each time we hear it because we feel the same!
Food is such an integral part of a wedding celebration, and having Aahaar make the process so positive and stress-free was such a blessing. Ramya was so easy to get a hold of and communicate with, and so professional in her approach which was very different from a lot of other Indian caterers we spoke to in our vendor search. Thank you Aahaar for making our day so special! If you are looking for a South Indian caterer for your wedding - look no further, we can't recommend...
Read moreI'll highlight the good first: The Dosa - just get it. It is SO SO SO good. I got the spinach one and the potato and spinach filling was just perfection. The flavors, the texture, omg everything. I decided to eat the middle by itself but then use the rest of the dosa as bread for the other entree I ordered. Cashew Chicken Korman - to die for. It was flavorful, smooth curry, tender - oh so tender - chicken.... everything about this was perfect. I dipped the dosa in the sauce and I was in heaven! Badam Halwa - the almond pudding dessert. So unique, so delicious. If you love almomds, get this. It reminded me of marzipan and it was just so sweet and yummy and warm. I ended up getting this to go because I was stuffed from my dinner. Glad I did not pass this up!
Would've easily been 5 stars had it not been for the soggy biryani (it was the only disappointment of the meal so I would not recommend - Can't tell if it was a one off thing but that's just the way they make it but.... it was offputting - almost like it was made with fresh cooked rice which retained so much moisture - as bad as soggy fried rice). The other thing that was a "meh" for me was service. My partner and I were literally the only people dining in and the service was slow and spotty. Water took a while to get there, almost didn't think it was ever going to come, lack of checking in, and when the waiter came, I felt like we were being a hinderance being there (like, he spilled the soup on the table without a word, and then he would casually walk over and put something else on the table once in a while without a word) - it's fine, the food spoke for itself.
I'll definitely come back for the korma and the dosas. If you've never had Dosas, get it! It's rare to find a place that has Dosas and other stuff so take...
