A few friends and I trekked a mile across Somerville in search of weekend brunch. We were a little surprised at the sight of Buddy's, but we navigated the sliding door and filed in for a unique diner experience. I ordered toast, eggs, and home fries, which were good and exactly as I expected--which could not be said of my friends' orders. The main ingredient of the pancakes (which were just billed as normal pancakes) seemed to be cornmeal; this made for unusual (though not terrible) pancakes. I don't think you can take more than one step inside without knowing what you're getting into. This is a real neighborhood diner. One of the last true relics of a quickly changing city. There is no accessible entrance, the door is a little broken, most of the menu is on paper plates, it's stools only, and the heater may or may not be broken. It is literally in an old boxcar to be fair. The food is consistent, the service is great and quick. It makes me feel good just going in. Don't expect anything fancy. Read moreLives steps away from Buddy’s and always wanted to try it out because it just looks super authentic and cozy. It didn’t disappoint, the veggie omelet tasted very good and eggs were fresh. Bagel was a little hard. My favorite was the home fries side dish, very delicious, crispy on the outside and tender inside, a must try. Wouldn’t be my daily go-to, but once in a while visit on a lazy Sunday is more than satisfying. The owners clearly know most of their patrons and carry great conversations.
