I was super excited to try this place. I typically like to read reviews before eating somewhere, and this place seemed to have great food judging from their ratings. I had seen it in passing on Yelp a few months ago when I was looking up Haitian food. This place is about 40 minutes away from me so I did not come here to fulfill my Haitian food craving THAT day. HOWEVER, TODAY I happened to be in the area of Somerville which doesnāt happen often, so I thought it would be a good idea to try the yummy food and I wanted to support a Haitian small local business. The service here was HORRIBLE. BAD COMMUNICATION! As soon as I walk in, she doesnāt even greet me. She just walks back and forth to the back, until I felt compelled to make eye contact and say something. I finally get her attention and place my order. Most of the food looks all cooked and ready for take-out, so I didnāt think it would take THAT long. WELL LET ME TELL YOU, I WAITED 30 MINUTES!! Then I found out my order was wrong and I had to wait almost an hour. I donāt even wait that long in a restaurant when Iām sitting down to dine-in...Let alone a place that seems to be a take-out spot. Maybe I wouldnāt have been as upset had there been better communication about how long it would take for the food to be finished. Especially because I ordered things that they said they had āreadyā . I hate leaving bad reviews, but I was so upset I wasted so much time on my day off. I really hope they step up their customer service and communication skills or I donāt see why anyone would continue...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePretty good, will be back for more. The Jamaican place in Hartford CT had much bigger portions for about the same price or a little less...but hey that's just Somerville for ya, gotta take what you can get. (Flash-) fried goat was pretty good, the fried pork was a little on the dry side, so next time I'll stick to the stewed dishes. Rice and beans were pretty good, will try the black rice next time too. We came 30 minutes before closing time so they were already out of many dishes. Somewhat disappointed that the amount of meat was relatively small, compared to other Jamaican places I've eaten at...you get a plastic box with 3 compartments, the big compartment is filled with rice, the two small ones are for 1 meat and 1 side. We had okra which was pretty good, fresh not frozen.
Actual venue is small, they have a counter with stools where you can sit and eat, but definitely geared more for take-out which is what we did. Twenty six bucks for two meals, about the same as the Whole Foods hot food bar but of course tons more flavor compared to WF's typically WASP-pandering blandness and preponderance of chicken over...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm really big on customer service. I like to feel welcomed when I go into a place where my money will be spent. This place was not. I went once last year and the two young men there were extremely nice, so nice that I didn't mind waiting the 30 minutes for what I wanted. Then the food was edible, not perfect but good enough to eat there again. I don't live near but today I was in the neighborhood and decided that it would be a a good way to end the long week. This time the man, I assume is the owner was so cold. I was asking questions and barely getting a response. I felt like I was being a nuisance and was getting a little uncomfortable. I tried to say maybe he's just tired or shy but he was very vocal with his group of friends that were hanging out. Mind you this time the food was just not right especially the macaroni. It may have been an off day in the kitchen but I'm not willing to give it another chance because of the lack of customer...
