EDIT: ownership has changed again, and I’ve been here another 8 times or so and had a great experience. BECTO (with egg) one of the best breakfast sandwiches in town. Service can still be slow at times but the past few staff members I’ve interacted with have been nice and positive.
Original review: I used to proudly recommend this place to my friends as the best breakfast sandwich spot in town. Sadly, since new management around 6 months ago I cannot recommend it at all. I really tried to give it time and keep coming back but I'm unfortunately done after today.
3 out of my last 10 sandwiches have been wrong. The first one they forgot the egg - THE EGG - in the breakfast sandwich... that's the main ingredient. The second one they forgot the Bacon and avocado I paid extra for. The third, which I just sadly unwrapped - was missing bacon, tomato, and onion. Just egg cheese and avocado.... The chai latte I got for my girlfriend was also undrinkable, tasted like they forgot to add oat milk or maybe the oat milk was spoiled?
On top of that, when my orders have been correct, quality has been wildly consistent, and wait times have been much longer even though there are not many people waiting.
The only nice things I can say are that the staff are always pleasant and the coffee has been decent. But with the price and wait, the quality and inconsistency is unacceptable. Hope they can...
Read moreI didn’t like true grounds for a while because my initial impression was slower service, but when I came in the later afternoon, Andrew made me the best iced latte I’ve had in a while & did it v timely. I got it with “bees knees” which is a honey syrup and it was soooo good. I also tried the chocolate scone and it was delicious. Really chunky, flaky, perfectly sweet……….. wow. I’ve been sleeping on true grounds for too long
6 months later, I’m writing an update! Still 5 stars from me! I’ve been coming here more often (around twice a week) for a warm drink and a book and I just really earnestly appreciate true ground’s existence in ball square. the employees go the extra mile to get to know all of the regulars names. I was out of town for a while and andrew still remembered me :’))) my goat
I also think their playlist on mondays is just so fire !!!!! they also have board games for the public available. it does get fairly packed around 11 as a heads up. and yeah the coffee takes a bit but it’s always delicious. their syrups especially…… the cajeta and bees knees had me in a chokehold for a while. i wish their peppermint and apple spice was...
Read moreI was visiting the area just for a weekend and wanted to try a cute cafe with great coffee. My partner has been here a few times and told me the their chai was good. I ordered an iced latte w/ hazelnut and skim milk and he ordered an iced chai latte. Both of our drinks were extremely watery. I couldn’t even taste coffee in mine. There was too much milk, but even then, all I tasted was syrupy water. Maybe they continue to run their espresso machines after they’ve filled an espresso cup so they’re getting more watered down coffee? I’m not sure. It was the same story with the chai—there was the tiniest hint of flavor, and the rest was all water. My partner told the staff about this and asked for a new one, which they gave, but it still wasn’t good. There was more chai added but it was extremely bitter (and I’ve had spicy chai before, and the bitterness wasn’t from that). I’m almost under the impression that they just have the drinks premade. I’m giving three stars because the barista remade one of our drinks, and the atmosphere is nice, but I would never go back if I...
