Bendix Restaurant Family Dining — Restaurant in South Bend

They used to have a 5 star rating by my standards. I love this restaurant. Their food is pretty good. I especially love their mushroom soup and county fried steak dinner.

Definitely recommend for breakfast, brunch and lunch. I love going in there with my sister or my husband.

Update: I am taking off two stars due to their service at dinner time. And I do not recommend it for families. This is due to their tipping policy that we were not aware of. If they are serving a party of 6+ peopl, they automatically charge you for the tip.. this we did not know when we handed the server our debit card.

We were going to tip them more actually because the service was good and the food as always was great.

But we were upset that we were not asked prior to being charged for the tip.

First, my family when we go out we all pitch in for the tip and usually whoever pays the bill doesn't have to tip. We also always leave our tips in cash.

We just found it really disrespectful.

They now have a sign at the door for groups 6+ and the staff and food is still great!!!

I’m a tractor trailer driver and I haul heavy equipment. I called in an order of 10 eggs over easy and two sides of bacon all in the same container. Normally at any other restaurant this totals approximately $15-$22. I ordered that same order for carryout at Bendix’s restaurant. I went and received the food and the girl laid the receipt to be signed on the counter, I signed it. While handing it back to her, I realized the total amount was $47.82. I asked her if she happened to make a mistake, she looked at the receipt and said no. I told her any other restaurant that I’ve went to the total amount was anywhere between $15 and $22. She looked at me and said, we charge $3.65 per egg. I told her I didn’t want the food and she told me that it already went through and she’s not reversing it. I didn’t argue and I took the food back out to my truck. The eggs and bacon had a overused grease taste to them. The eggs didn’t taste any different than the bacon. Just an old greasy flavor. I usually don’t do this but it’s needed today. In their defense... I have been to this Resturant a number of times and enjoyed it in the past but, today was not the same. To start off you get no welcome when you enter the Resturant, I was seated with no words or body language at a table with no silverware. Took about 10 mins to get some coffees with creamers. The creamer was old and curdled so we waited for more. Still had to ask for silverware so we could stir our coffees. Sat with menus down for another 10 mins, server never checked on us we were given coffee and creamers by 2 different ladies.. the ceiling was bloated with water damage that looked like it was going to break open any second. Finally got our order in, and the server was friendly. I ate a small portion of my omelet before I saw the giant hair on the plate..! Neither of us wanted to eat our food.
