We started out with amazingly good bloody marys. Linda waited on us and told us what was inthe mix she makes:V8, onion powder, garlic powder, celery seeds, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish and fresh cracked pepper and salt. They use pepper vodka and leon & lime slices and an olive. Ended up having a second, they were so good. Got a butterbean hummus, olives, room twmp feta chunks with grilled bread and crnchy bread sticks and prosciutto. Nicee combo and the hummus was creamy and flavorful. Had 6 oysters that came with lemon wedges, thick horseradish sauce and a wasabi/cucumber suace that was perfect and refreshing on the oysters. Could find nothing to complain about. We got there early and by this time our area in the covered outdoors was filling up steadily. Had fish tacos that came with chips and gauc and a spinach salad with crisp seared scallops. The salad also had split red grapes, goats cheese bits and red onions. My only complaint is that the balsamic dressing was overly sweet to me and there was no cruchy bits in the mix. The fish tacos were huge and had great flavor. We ordered a brownie with banana icecream and a chocolate ganache covered chocolate mousee bombe with creme anglaise and raspberry coulis. The homemade ice cream was wonderful and the brownie with walnuts and thin layer of ganache was good. The raspberry coulis was nice and tart and tasted. Of raspberries and not sugar which was nice. The creme anglais sauce was a nice vanilla taste and not overly sugarry. It was a nice dessert as well. Linda was wonderful and we really enjoyed our time there. We were leaving just before a large table of women were being seated next to us. Our timing was perfect . I look forward to going back as there were so many interesting choices on the menu that I would have liked to try. Their lunch special was a fried lobster tail over a variety of vegetables and a nut crusted fish over an asian mix with kale julienne style. It looked very good when served at the table behind us. Looking forward...
Read moreWe had a girls birthday lunch for my mom! First off, the restaurant was prepared and had confetti on the table and great atmosphere! That was sweet! We did have a great time together, but service was really rough & slow!! It took a long time for them to get our order, they didn’t come often to refill drinks, then when the food came, which everyone got basic salads and soups, nothing complicated, 2 of us didn’t get our food and the we waited and waited and then finally flagged someone down to ask where the last 2 plates were! Had a waiter checked on us at all after bringing food they would have known we hadn’t even gotten our plates! It was $20 for them to cut a cake which they lit the candle back in the kitchen and the waiter didn’t check with me or I would have said hey this is a unique candle you need to light it at the table, but when they brought it out it had already “bloomed” and one candle was left for my mom to blow out. Lastly, they didn’t offer to bring the cake back out or let me know if any was leftover and they also kept the extra birthday plates and big box of matches I had brought. The service took so long one lady had to leave, so she gave me $40 cash for her meal. I put that $40 in with my card. When they brought the bill back out to me, the waiter had taken the $40 out for themselves as their tip and had not deducted it from the bill. I have never had this happen before! I still left an extra tip, but that was ridiculous and rude! My mom said the waiter did the same thing last time she was here, so this is a problem. We really did have a great time together but it could have been a lot better with better waitstaff attention! All of us felt very overlooked on...
Read moreGreat Food and Service. It has been a few years since we last visited and we found Bistro 217 to still be very good. Being a Bistro type restaurant, the dishes include numerous ingredients and lean gourmet. My girlfriend had the Pear Salad and the Pan-Seared Lobster, Shrimp & Scallops with Sundried tomatoes, and scallions in parmesan béchamel over fettuccine. I had the French Onion soup and Eggplant Treasure Chest Local shrimp, scallops, Grouper in basil-parmesan cream sauce over fried eggplant. I enjoyed the Eggplant Treasure Chest, which consisted of Local shrimp, scallops, and Grouper in a basil-parmesan cream sauce over fried eggplant. Everything was excellent, except the French Onion Soup, which included a bit too much bread for my taste. The portions were generous. The service was excellent and prompt. As soon as we were seated a breadbasket was placed on the table. Our server, Carrie, was knowledgeable, helpful, courteous, and professional. She checked regularly to be sure we were enjoying our meal despite having a couple of large party tables. The restaurant was slightly on the pricey side - but the value was good considering the quality and quantity of the food. In an area with so many restaurants, The Bistro 217 stands out for fine dining. We are looking forward to a return visit. If it were not for the onion soup and the noise level, I would have given this restaurant a...
