Pawleys Island Bakery — Restaurant in South Carolina

I love visiting bakeries when traveling and I kept driving name and forth past Pawleys Island Bakery and on my lady day David’s to stop. Looking over the display windows (see pictures) I chose four different bakery items. (Donuts are not bakery items in my humble opinion). I chose a blueberry scone, a croissant, a cream cheese danish and a piece of the coffee cake. Upon arriving back at vacay house I divided the bakery items into fourths to be enjoyed by the others. When cutting into the croissant I knew it was a day old - at least. Not flaky from Butter but crunchy due to exposure to air. For at least a day. Very disappointing- the interior flavor followed the exterior disappointment. The danish was good- but again the pastry was disappointing. The filling was well balanced- creamy and not too sweet. The blueberry scone was perfect. Not too sweet. Fresh and the right amount of blueberries too. Clearly baked that day. And really good. The last bakery item was the coffee cake. The amount of oil in the cake insured moistness and the topping - as thick as the cake base was full of flavor. It was as hard as the cake was moist - making it difficult to have cake and topping in the same bite- but it was good. Not too much cinnamon- just the right amount and full of flavor. The bakery is happy to make breakfast sandwiches and the label on the box speaks of catering too - so they are not only a bakery but more. Maybe they began as a bakery only and commerce drove them to expand into more? So based on my experience- you have a 50/50 chance of getting an authentic balance well created bakery item. I am so so happy with the services provided by Pawleys Island Bakery! This was my favorite vendor out of all of the ones we worked with for our entire wedding!! Tiffany is so kind and executed everything exactly how I envisioned. I had a destination wedding in Murrells Inlet and could only visit one time; 6 months before my wedding, to book my vendors. I had initially booked a tasting with someone else down the street that hadn’t gone well. Tiffany was able to squeeze me in the day before I had to leave! She was so kind, open to my ideas and loved that I wanted to do flavors that weren’t boring! The tasting was wonderful and she explained how she was going to transport the cake, dust it with gold glitter and place the flowers I provide when she got there. (These were all things the other bakery wouldn’t do, even at almost double the cost!) The day of the wedding she was super excited for us and did an amazing job decorating. All of our guests absolutely loved the cake!! The bottom tier: vanilla cake with lemon mousse and strawberry preserves The middle tier: marbled chocolate/vanilla cake with salted caramel mousse (to die for!!!) The top tier: coconut cake with coconut mousse

Everyone absolutely loved every tier! My guests still talk about this cake every time they see me! Included in the cost of the cake is in a year we can come back and they’ll bake a new cake of whatever flavor we loved for our anniversary.

If I had to re-do our wedding this would be the first vendor I book!! I cannot say enough...

This is a fantastic bakery! I would highly recommend it to anyone in the area. We purchased breakfast sandwiches and pastries/muffins/bagels 2 days in a row. I especially liked the almond and chocolate croissants. They were some of the best I have ever had. My family enjoyed the muffins, bagels, and donuts they had as well. We found it really busy in the morning, but they did a good job taking and filling orders, and getting people through. Customer service was very good overall. One day, I ordered multiple breakfast sandwiches when it was really busy, and only 1 person was at the register. I didn't get as many as I had ordered, so I let her know. I had to wait a little longer, but it was taken care of pretty quickly. I took my orders to go, but there was a large area to sit and eat. It looked like a cozy place to meet a friend, or even sit and read while enjoying a delicious treat! Update: We returned several times when we were in the area, and tried more breakfast sandwiches, donuts, scones, apple fritters, and cinnamon rolls. They were all terrific and service was...
