After vacationing in beautiful Pawleys Island for several years and shopping at The Hammocks Village on multiple occasions, I could not wait to bring my aunt and cousin by the Shoppes. I knew my cousin, a shoppe manager herself from our hometown, would have rave reviews. Much to my extreme disappointment, she experienced snooty and up their own patootie customer service on not one, but two occasions on separate days from employees at this establishment. My aunt and cousin walked in to your store at 5:50pm on Thursday and was promptly told by an unpleasant employee with short brown hair that your store closed in 5 minutes. As a shoppe manager, my cousin knows the first rule of retail is to NEVER turn away a customer. My cousin had planned to purchase several Scout and Spartina bags and tootsie roll pops for my 88 year old grandfather on vacation with us — per his request. However, two men walked in your store after my aunt and cousin without having one word said to them. No wonder your store was so empty as I’m certain other patrons are treated in this foul manner. Wanting to give your store another try, they came back today while employees were decorating for fall. Not one employee welcomed them, asked how they could help, if they were looking for anything special, etc. They left your store and went to Elegantz — behind your establishment — and spent their wads of cash as the gentleman (and owner) was so courteous, kind and welcoming. I highly doubt the owner of your establishment would condone treating patrons the way my aunt and cousin were treated. One thing is for sure — my cousin will continue to serve her patrons well and roll out the red carpet for anyone who comes in her establishment whether it’s one minute after opening or one minute...
Read moreMy family and I just had a horrible experience in your store. My children were purchasing some of your bulk candy. They mixed several different types of candy in the bags. When we got to the register, the cashier said there were two different types of candy in one of the bags. She wasn't very clear what the problem was, actually quite rude and snippy. it took me a second but we figured out the chocolate needed to be separated out from the other candy, so I stepped aside with my daughter and helped her separate it while my husband checked out with our sons. After the cashier wrung in my son's and my husband paid she handed the bags of candy back to my husband and said "great way to raise your kids, you got away with it". Apparently my son had four pieces of chocolate in his bag as well. When I got outside my husband was telling me and another family overheard us and asked if we were talking about the cashier, he said yes. They said she was terribly rude to them, threw a pair of scissors at him when he asked to cut a tag of something he had purchased.
I'm incredibly disgusted that this type of customer service is tolerated in your business. My children were treated and made to feel like thieves over a mistake, one we were obviously very willing to fix if we had been made aware. "Great way to raise your kids, you got away with it" would be acceptable if we were there with malicious intent trying to steal from you but that was obviously not the case in this instance. I genuinely can't even describe how disgusted I am by the way my family was...
Read moreI’ve been vacationing at Myrtle beach since I about 2 years old. We visit all Pawleys Island shops and it’s a tradition of ours that me and my sister are now passing onto our children. Today we went into PI Mercantile and my mom and I were smelling one of our favorite lotions that we only get from this store and my 3yo son started to open a cabinet. As I’m closing the cabinet the women working ran over and was very rude pushing in front of me to close the cabinet and ask me if could help me with anything in a snotty tone. I let her know I was just closing the cabinet that he opened. All he did was open the door he didn’t touch anything in the cabinet. After the ways she acted I put back the items I was going to purchase and left. When we return to PI in the future I will not be returning to this specific shop. Kids are curious and I was handling the situation. Nothing was harmed, nothing in the cabinet was breakable as it was tubes of lotion, and there was no reason for her to react the...
