What a surprise! We have been coming to the marshwalk area since I was a child, and I’m now almost 60. We have our favorites, and we tend to get into a groove. But, last week we were in Garden City Beach and it snowed! Not a little bit of snow. Actual New-England-type-snow. But, since we have lived in New England at some point in our lives, we knew how to drive in the white stuff. The problem was finding anything open. We were surprised and thrilled to see the Bubba‘s Love Shak red ‘open’ sign was lit!
We were also surprised that when we entered, there was a roaring fire. I pulled up a chair next to the fire and never left. The server came and delivered our drinks and our food, and I just ate my shrimp on my lap.
The final surprise was in the quality of the food. Wow! The house salad, which comes with a house dressing that is equal parts honey mustard and a hot bacon, was outstanding. It was really large, and when I poured both dressings on and mixed them together it was one of the best salads I have had in years! I ordered the fried shrimp special which came with the house salad and a side, and I chose the mashed potatoes. They were “OK” and were the only little bit of disappointment in the meal, because I’ve had more flavorful mashed potatoes. But the salad and the shrimp more than made up for it! Next time I’ll just choose a different side. My husband had a fish sandwich. He also found it flavorful and it was a nice-sized portion.
And our server… Our server was attentive, funny, always looking to see if we needed another drink or anything else. I really wish I remember her name, as she was just delightful.
Bottom line, we will be back! We have an entire list of places we go on the marshwalk, and this will now be at the top. Cannot wait to introduce our friends to this restaurant, because we have been basically stuck in a loop of going to the same ones year over year.
The only other disappointment was that they had to close the bar, and I was craving one more wonderful rum punch next to the fireside, but it was getting slick outside, and I am just so thankful that they opened at all and allowed a few of the locals to come in and enjoy a respite from the snow and weather.
Also, I had never seen the Marshwalk in the snow, so there are some photos attached here....
Read moreVisited the Low Country this past weekend, and Bubba's Love Shak was on our list for either lunch or dinner while we visited the famous Marshwalk due to it's good reviews and a mouth-watering menu. We arrived later in the day on Friday, August 5 around 5:00 p.m. so we went for dinner. We were greeted immediately by some giggling teenage girls all huddled around the hostess desk. My husband jokingly told the young hostess we had a party of 30 (I was shaking my head no as she was dumbfounded). He started laughing and explained that he was just kidding....there was only the two of us. We were seated promptly by the hostess. When our waitress (I won't name her here), came over to take our drink orders, she was very matter-of-fact, we never saw her smile, and it seemed we were bothering her for her to have to wait on us. My husband tried small talk with her, but she didn't seem interested. I wanted the oyster po'boy but she said they didn't serve it at dinner. Not sure why it wasn't on the menu for dinner since you can get it for lunch and she didn't bother to explain nor did she offer to ask if I could get it anyway. She came over only a couple of times to refill our glasses and to see if we needed anything. To top it off, the slaw was missing from my plate. My shrimp and fries were very good however. When I asked about the slaw, I never got an apology and I was finished eating by the time I finally got it....it was awful. To make her work for any tip she might receive, we told her we were thinking of ordering drinks to sit outside to people watch and she should check back in about 10 minutes. She finally came back so we ordered our drinks which was the best part of this fiasco of a dinner. Needless to say, this is our first and last visit to Bubba's Love Shak, and we will encourage our friends to stay away. Maybe you get better service when they have a full house but we'll never know. Also, maybe they should hire older than teenage employees or at least do some customer-service training with them. Very disappointed...
Read moreTerrible costumer relations. I ordered a glass of red wine after dinner at JPeters with my family. The bar on the right side is so tilted downward that as soon as the bartender gave it to me, it slid down and all over me. Covered my outfit, shoes, and purse with red wine. He acted as if I was at fault. A sweet boy that worked next door at JPeters showed me where the bathroom was. The guy behind the bar didn't even offer where it was. I washed out my clothes as good as I could. When I came back he told me that another guy at the bar had paid for my 7$ glass of wine. When I told him that no one should have to pay for the 1st glass because the glass slid. He very agitated said "don't attack me I just work here I don't own the place" rolled his eyes and walked off. He was extremely rude. His customer service was 0. He acted as if it was my fault. I wish I knew his name. Id for sure write it here so everyone could know. I did notice others have posted his picture and compained about him as well so I used their photo. He doesn't need to be a bartender or working with the public at all. They also need to fix the bar so that your drink doesn't slide. If they aren't going to do that, they need to definitely hire a bartender with better people skills who at least warns you it may happen. Not this jerk who acts like it's your fault and still charges you...
