So, this is my local pizza joint because it's just a couple of miles from my 'hood. And they're actually okay in regards to food quality. Sure, Vic's and a handful of other pizza joints are quite a bit better when it comes NY-style pie, mainly because their mozza game is so much better than Della Ventura's. But DV's is alright. And it's the fact that the food is "alright" that I'm giving it two stars.
And to be totally upfront about this review, it's in regards to to-go orders. My last three visits here were to pick up some pie. The last two trips were met with exorbitantly long waits that were due to inattentive staff.
Let me tell you about last night since it was a joke.
I ordered two large pizzas and was told they'd be ready in 30 minutes. I arrived on time and walked straight to the register and gave them my name. The girl rang me up and I paid, even left a 15% tip to be nice, which is what I usually do on to-go orders.
Then I waited.
After about five minutes I asked and was told it was almost ready.
So, I waited some more.
Fifteen minutes later I asked again and the same girl remarked "you have to pay first."
I said "I paid you 20 minutes ago for a pizza order that I placed 50 minutes ago." She seemed a bit taken aback and then did one of those snarky head shakes and screwed her face up as if she was in denial about having made a mistake. No apology, just a condescending attitude.
Next thing I knew a young guy was handing me my pizzas. I opened the box on top and my pizzas looked like they had been sitting for a bit. I touched the cheese and it was no longer hot.
So yeah, my pizzas were ready on time and I got there on time. I paid and tipped and I got subpar service for the second time in a row, but this time they gave me a slice of millenial ineptitude that was topped with righteous indignation.
Next time I'll just keep drving and go to Vic's or Vinnie's or Vito's. They're a little farther away but at least they don't treat you with disdain for being a...
Read moreI have eaten here twice... The first time was a couple years ago and we got a pizza. My recollection is, it was so so...this is reinforced by our failure to go back. Until tonight. Tonight, ordered calamari, spaghetti, and lasagna. In fairness to the restaurant this was a to go order. The lasagna was not to myy taste. Full of cheese with very little sauce. They made a point to mention meat when I ordered it, and there was a dollup if ground beef on one side of the lasagna. Very little tomato sauce. I believe the menu calls it cheese lasagna, and that name is appropriate. I did it care for it, and if you enjoy lasagna with meat, I can only guess the dish would not suit you well either. I can't comment on whether the dish was good, to be honest. Lasagna to me has meat and tomato sauce, and without those elements, there was no saving it for me. The calamari batter was soggy. I am not sure if eating at the restaurant would have helped. The rolls were rather flavorless
My wife had spaghetti w meat sauce. Similar to the lasagna, the meat seemed to be an add on versus being incorporated with the sauce. she was not impressed. I will say the quantities were huge. We could and should have split something and we would still have had leftovers. The staff were very friendly and seemed like they had their act together.
All in all, eating there MAY have helped the dishes somewhat, but based on our two tries (again, one there, one take a way), we won't be going back. Hope this is helpful for others. Obviously some.people love it, but it is...
Read moreVery good but each time you go seems to be a different experience. Not that any experiences were bad but some are better than others. We were there last night and it was jammed packed as usual. I waited by the hostess station (as there is virtually nowhere else to wait) and watched the hostess disappear often leaving the patrons who haven't put there names on the wait list yet awkwardly stand there. When she would finally return, she would excuse herself through the crowd by saying "beep, beep" instead of excuse me. There seemed to be an uncomfortable exchange between her and a server. It was apparent that the way she was seating people was putting stress on the servers. Sitting three large tables at once to the same server (this happened to us), but our service was tremendous thanks to the server. The food is good, portions are generally large. I don't see how one could ever leave here hungry. The only issue I've ever had here is the one time I had sent back some food that arrived ice cold. It returned back to my table so hot that it literally burned my mouth. When I asked what they did, did just said they microwaved it. I was taken aback at how that seemed ok to them. Microwaved pasta! Needless to say, I just sent to back, then they offered to make me a new one. Then told me that when I came next time, they'd give me a discount. He apparently was a manager, which seems like poor...
