Having just spent 9 days in central America on vacation we were excited about having some authentic cuisine. Now, just to be fair, we were in Quintana Roo and this food is from Guatamala, El Salvador, Nicaragua which are foods I've never experienced. Here are my thoughts. 1. The chips were stale and the salsas had no salt or really any seasoning. The service was a little slow however this could just be language issues and I'm fine with that. The carne dish was just ok, the rice and beans were dry and worse the plantains were dry. The steak was ok but thin and over cooked. The chicken dish was actually better and was really the only flavorful thing I had. The place has been renovated great and you do get the feeling you're in a nice Central American restaurant. The only reason I'm giving the food a 4 is that I'm not sure about these countries' true food flavors. Maybe their preferences are bland and dry. Mine are not. On pure preference I would be at a 3. Prices are reasonable. For quantity of food.
Please don't judge this place based on American expectations of a Mexican restaurant. That is not what this is and I hope for the best for their future. We need more authenticity in our food options in our area and I applaud...
Read moreFirst the waitresses need to learn how to serve, personal space with clients, how not to be rude, how to have hospitality and how to properly take orders. My family and I came here for Mexican food and was disappointed to see it was Honduran or the like. My children's chicken wings were overcooked, no season as well as the table chips were bland with no seasoning nor salt added just oil and the salsa was gross and tasted like water. Even the bottled salsa was gross and tasted bitter old. I got a breakfast plate with plantains, sausage, avocado, beans cheese and eggs. They also added about a half cup of mayonnaise to the plate. The sausage was overcooked. I wasn't able to request Sunnyside up eggs as the waitress took off and I was supposed to be able to request how I wanted it cooked as per the menu stating so. I was stuck with oily, dry, bland, rubbery and overcooked eggs I could not eat. That's the theme here is bland food with no flavor, it's worse than an American restaurant with that. C'mon people, season your food! The beans lacked flavor as well unfortunately. I had to place beans on a plantain piece with queso fresco to have any flavor whatsoever. Overall my family will not return as it was not worth what we...
Read moreI was excited to try La Choza, an authentic Central American restaurant, as it was my first outing since moving to the area. Unfortunately, the experience fell short.
We were seated promptly, but that's where the good service ended. Despite noticing other tables being served, we were left waiting for an extended period. It took my husband approaching the front desk to request service.
When our server finally arrived, she didn't introduce herself or apologize for the delay. We had to rush through our order, as we'd been waiting for so long. To make matters more confusing, another server introduced herself as our new server, bringing our drinks.
The food arrived all at once, with our appetizer and entree served together. While I understand this might be a minor issue, it added to the overall sense of disorganization.
Sadly, the food didn't impress me, but I'm willing to attribute that partly to my disappointment with the service.
Given the authentic Central American cuisine, I wanted to love La Choza. However, the subpar service and disorganized experience left a sour taste. I'm unsure if...
