McAlister's Deli — Restaurant in South Carolina

Stopped here for a quick bite before going to Lidl. Due to the weather their computer system was down & registers couldn't be opened/orders couldn't be typed in, therefore they let us know that our meal was free if the system didn't come back up before we left. My husband and I appreciated their kindness, but we assured them that we will pay, even going so far as to calculate a total in our phone & giving them cash to cover it when the system came back up *sadly, the manager made them give us our money back..I would assume to reduce any liability if something happened. We got our food in a timely manner & chatted with the people working at the counter in passing to lighten the mood. By the time I finished my food, the system came back up...so I sent my husband to pay and tip the ones who helped us. Quite a few customers came in during our time there & walked right back out after hearing only a few words of what the cashiers were trying to politely explain, my husband didn't understand why people would walk out after being told "our system is down..your food would be free.." I had to explain that people can be like that in our "busy times", if it proves a challenge/hassle they tend to go in the other direction to avoid any inconvenience. I’ve been coming with my family to this location for just over three years now and have to say the consistency of service and food has been the best.

It’s also part of the experience when we go dine out and every time I’ve come with family or on my own I’ve always seen a friendly face who takes the time to greet, chat and just be a little extra thoughtful all while being patient and offering suggestions or explanations on a menu item.

I’ve taken the time to notice that the general manager works tirelessly to check on patrons, introducing himself and ensure orders are enjoyed. He has also hired some of the most outgoing and kindest staff, I truly enjoy their smiles and feel welcome when I visit for my next order. It’s one thing to go out for a meal, but it’s experiencing good food with a pleasant environment that just helps set me up for a better day. I believe that making this an extra stop for a fresh made ice tea with their tea pass or a healthier option for lunch is worth it.

If I could suggest one improvement , while it is big, I’d love to see this location get a more updated facelift though, the seating, walls, floors and bathrooms are functionally obsolescent. I've been sleeping on this restaurant chain and decided to finally try them today for lunch since I was nearby shopping. Upon entering I noticed that they had curbside pickup due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I could also tell by the other customers that they had limited capacity inside and offered outdoor seating. I decided to yelp and view their online menu, and called in an order. The staff was very friendly and professional during my call in, and estimated that my food would be ready in 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes in entered the establishment and was quickly greeted by a friendly and courteous. My call in order was ready so I paid for it and quickly decided to eat outdoors. I noticed that the staff was wearing gloves and face masks. They was also cleaning the limited capacity tables instead in between customers. Everything that we ordered tasted truly amazing and well worth another visit in the near future. I felt the prices were very affordable and they have a plentiful portions.
