We did some research before visiting this place, and most of the reviews said that the ingredients were very fresh and that the food was great, so maybe our expectations were too high, but we didn't think the fish was very fresh at all.
I had Da Kine (tuna) and my wife had Johnny Utah (salmon) on a bed of sushi rice. We thought that the vegetables like avocado, onions, and edamame were fresh, but tuna and salmon probably had been out in the open for a while or they were just not stored properly.
It's like Chipotle or Moe's Grill where you see the ingredients out in the open not covered, and I understand it looks appetizing and attractive to present the ingredients that way, but it shouldn't be so with raw fish. Any raw fish should be refrigerated or at least kept cold with a cover to minimize the loss of freshness. If you visit an authentic sushi restaurant like Inakaya or Camon in Columbia, you will see all of the raw fish in a refrigerated glass case on the counter to keep it fresh. Ideally, the fish should be uncut in a big chunk/block, and the server should only cut it in pieces (in cubes at this place) when the customer orders a menu item with tuna or salmon. Shrimp and octopus are pre-cooked, so it does not require the same degree of refrigeration.
On a positive note, the two ladies who served us were very friendly and helpful, and the place was very clean. I also liked the fact that this is not a restaurant with waiters and waitresses which means you don't need to worry about...
Read moreMy wife delivers for Door dash and has had a couple deliveries from Poke Bros. So she tried it and really liked it. She described it as getting sushi for half the price and while getting more food. I had the weekend off so we decided to do a lunch date here so I could try it. I agree with her statement 100 percent. There are premade bowls on the menu or you can make your own. For the premade bowls you cannot make substitutions or additions btw. I got a half and half bowl with shrimp and spicy salmon and avacados along with other ingredients. Some extras have an upcharge but $1.50 was the cost of the most expensive add-on. The food was very fresh and tasted great. The atmosphere was peaceful and quiet. We went around 2:30 so I will assume the lunch crowds were gone and the supper crowds hadn't arrived. Service was very friendly and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend Poke Bros for anybody who likes Asian cuisine or really likes Sushi but not the price. Or anyone who wants to try something different from the usual burgers, fries, pizza, stuff. They also offer bubble and milk teas, and mochi ice cream, with a sizable...
Read moreWife convinced me to give the place a try. She described it to me as a place that does what is basically deconstructed sushi in a bowl... well, she told the truth. However, the sauces and such were excellent. The food was very fresh, and we were served quickly. As a new customer the person taking care of us was patient in explaining how it all worked. I had the Duke, with some extra avocado on it. Absolutely delicious. Everything was very fresh tasting and I admit, considering the fish was raw I was rather nervous about it being handled Moe's/Pita pit/subway restaurant style. We went memorial day afternoon, had the entire store to ourselves. The place was nice and clean, loved the living edge wood tables. The staff was friendly. Prices were excellent for what we got. Only cons I really saw... there were 5 beers available...all lagers/pale ale... liked that they carried Kona brewery, but alas... also a lager/pale ale... would like to see a variety offered for us craft beer lovers...a hefewiess or begian triple would go excellently with this fare. Overall, very nice. Will definately be going back. Definately recommend. Will add pics with...
