If you feel nostalgic and desperate this would be the place to go. However, there is room for improvement; the meat was too salty, the dough of the Nacatamal was way too oily and salty causing it to break up which appear to be a compensation for a dry dough as if it was messed up and they try to fix it by adding more lard and salt to hide the fact that it was not to taste. The fried soft and hard plantains ( platano maduro y platano Frito) were on point the meat was poor quality and the rice and beans were a little past the proper taste point perhaps I was served last night's Gallo Pinto. The $15 price per plate cannot be justified. Honestly, this is not a very food place or the cook was not feeling well at all when the food was prepared. The Cacao juice and the Maracuya juice were absolutely not good. The Maracuya was so sweet you could not taste the actual fruit due to the amount of sugar. The Cacao had more of a Pinolio taste than anything. If I wanted Pinol I would have ordered Pinol. Overall, I am disappointed and this is one restaurant that I cannot find myself going back to. To call it a Nicaraguan restaurant is more of an insult because it doesn't come anywhere near close to the great tasting...
Read moreSo this was MY experience the first time here. Mind you, my husband and I both are from Miami. We ate Fritanga food often. We walked in. They were at a table working and the older lady turned her head and asked what we wanted. My husband replied rice/beans, fried cheese, plantains, and grilled steak. A typical meal that Fritangas sold. We didn't ask a price. We never were offered a menu to see a price. We were just so excited. We ordered one plate to try and if it was good we would be ordering three more plates. They brought us the food. We went to go pay before eating as this is the respectful thing to do. I open the plate while my husband pays. They tried to charge us $18 for one plate!! It was maybe 2 to 3 OUNCES of meat, two scoops of rice, four pieces of plantain, and one piece of fried cheese. This is INSANE. The gentleman ringing us up got very mad at the older lady because she did not offer us a menu or advise of the price. We left without eating. I bet the place is good but charging way too much for very little food. Very very...
Read moreFell in love with Nicaraguan food from San Francisco (Oye Managua) and needed something in Houston. You won't find another Nicaraguan restaurant in all of Houston! This is very in the hole restaurant and I am happy to say this passes the taste and authenticity test. Both Pork and Beef is very very well marinated and seasoned. Very sweet platanos maduros, I personally think the gallo pinto should be softer but it still tastes good. Don't get me started on their chile! This is what kept me tied here, their chile is a great amount of spice (a mexican will say "que no pica!" But for everyone else, yes lol) it's so good I bought a 16oz cup for 5$. I feel like I was overcharged for some reason hence why I am only putting 4â. Service is great and friendly. Definitely go out of your way for this place, I don't...
