If I could give 0 stars, I would. I have been to the provo location multiple times and am never disappointed, and so my friends and I decided to try the salt lake location. Right from the beginning, there was slow service, we had to ask for a menu, and we had to wait about 15 minutes to flag a waitress down and order.
There were so many red flags from the beginning, we should have left, but because the provo location was so good we decided to give it a chance. The chicken tandoori came out first, without any plates or rice or naan, it just came out by itself. We sat there staring at it while waiting for our other food, but we noticed that there was mold on the lemon wedge, on top of the tandoori dish. Because the mold was not touching anything, we decided not to bother the waitress about it, but a restaurant should not be serving moldy food products, they at least could have switched the lemon wedge or cut out the moldy section. As a restaurant owner, I realize how hard it is to run and maintain a restaurant, but unprofessional service is never allowed to the customers who literally keep you in business. Our chicken tikka masala and naan came out a little later, along with the rice. We were so excited, but soon crushed by the vision of the garlic naan bread that was burnt to a crisp with multiple bursted bubbles. We started to eat the rice and tandoori, which was amazing. But when it came to the chicken tikka masala, it was watery, lacked flavor, and tasted like they used spoiled yogurt. Because we go to the provo location and also numerous other indian cuisines, we were pretty familiar with the flavor. This was not it. This tikka masala was honestly one of the most ill tasting curries I have ever tried. We were unable to finish the dish, let alone what was on our plates. I was mortified by the difference of flavors between the two different restaurant locations.
None of us could eat the tikka masala, and so we told our waitress that the chicken tikka masala tasted different from the usual and that it was also a bit watery. I showed her the consistency and she looked at me and said "I do not understand". I told her blatantly that the chicken tikka masala did not taste good and that it was a lot different from the regular flavors of chicken tikka masala. She looked at me annoyed and said "one second" and left to the kitchen. As we waited, we looked over at the tables around us and everyone's curries looked creamy and normal and THEIR NAAN WAS FLUFFY AND NOT A SINGLE TRACE OF BLACK, unlike ours. You can imagine our disbelief.
To top it off, our waitress never came back to us about the chicken masala, although she said "one second". We sat looking at our food for about 20 minutes until another waitress said something to our waitress pointing at us. Our waitress came over and said "check?" and we nodded because we wanted to get out of there. She came back and did not say anything to us and rang us up. I was in disbelief over the terrible service. I understand being a waitress is hard work and challenging, but to treat a customer this way is so disrespectful. I tried to be understanding, but if you were to run a restaurant with the passion of sharing your food with others and bringing happiness to people with those foods, then none of this would ever happen.
All of the people working only seemed to be interested with themselves and each other, and not their customers. If you're only looking to make money, then a restaurant business is not for you.
I would not recommend this place to anyone. There are many indian cuisines in this area that have amazing service and great quality food for...
Read moreWe have been very satisfied with their Indian food and not satisfied with their customer service. It's in the neighborhood (quality-wise) of Bombay House, although I still think Bombay House wins. We have been there 5 times (we got one Groupon and really liked it; then we bought 4 more the next time we saw the Groupon). However, they seem to resent the people with Groupons. Once we ordered and they gave us a hard time saying we had to order two entrees to use the Groupon (even though the group on said nothing of the kind anywhere in the fine print). Ultimately they wanted us to order well over the $20 that the Groupon was worth. I agree that their customer service is a major disappointment; our first time dining in nobody waited on us after we got our food. Then we waited in a line for nearly 10 minutes to pay our check since they had no one dedicated to manning the register. Subsequently, we've ordered out. They will not be getting tips from these Groupon purchasers--I don't care what Groupon says about its customers and their tipping reputation. Also, why don't they have prices listed on their online menu? We like their veggie coconut korma. The mango korma was too sweet; not enough spices. Their naan is okay. Rice is excellent. We also get their veggie tikka masala and it's pretty good. Mango ice cream is very good but way too expensive ($4 for 4 oz). Rice pudding dish (I can't remember what it's called) is decent--not great. Mango lassie is very good. The paneer (homemade cheese) tikka masala is pretty good as well. I was afraid to eat their homemade cheese but it's essentially tasteless and adds some texture and protein to the...
Read moreI heard that India Palace had great food, but unfortunately I did not get to try it nor will I ever be back. My boyfriend and I went for dinner on Friday night, ordered our food and placed a drink order with our server who asked to see my boyfriend's ID. About 5 minutes later a different employee came up requesting to see his ID again, he happily pulled it out as the woman stared him up and down and then walked away with his ID. She came back, handed him his ID and left. A minute later 2 other employees came up asking to see his ID. He again handed over the ID and showed two credit cards that reflect the exact same name. The employee inspected the state issued ID and credit cards letter for letter and then had the nerve to ask my boyfriend, "Do you have another ID?" Our server came back and made up some excuse that the alcohol had been locked up and he would have to wait 5 minutes for someone to come in and unlock it. Really? On a Friday night your alcohol is locked up and you do not have someone there to open it? I'm not buying it. Not once did any of the associates apologize for being completely inconsiderate and harassing him. He happily complied each time he was asked to show his ID. I could maybe understand if my boyfriend just turned 21, or if his picture looked nothing like him. It does however and he was born in 1987, so there should have been no question. I was thrilled to walk out and take our business elsewhere. I would not recommend coming here as the management clearly has no respect for paying customers and is not apologetic in...
