First before we get started on this review, I want people to know this was an exception in what we experienced in the past. The food rating of two is not normal, normally great food, great service and a good place to be. Reservation was at 6:00 in the Oyster Bar, because of the rush for the holidays wasn’t a busy, busy night. We were greeted warmly and seated quickly. After 45 minutes we finally placed our order for the night, not because we were in doubt about what we wanted to eat, it took 45 minutes for our server to get back to us. Maybe he wasn’t happy that after he dropped off the bread and water we were still looking at the menu. But really, 45 minutes. I was surprised our food arrived in what I thought was a rather short time. We ordered three prime rib dinners and one dinner consisted of seafood. When our dinner arrived, the vegetables were cold, my wife said her mashed potatoes were cold and my potatoes were cold too. The prime rib was warm, but not like we have had in the past. Without knowing, we have to assume our server didn’t really care to serve us, he let the food sit before we received it. He sure didn’t put any special time talking to us. Didn’t even come back and ask if everything was fine. Not a word, first time in ten yeas eating at Market Place did a server not comeback and make sure we were fine. We eat out food and then waited, and waited and finally when the server came back we asked for two boxes to take some leftover food home for the next day. Twenty minutes later the boxes arrived. We then expected the server to ask if we wanted desert or another drink or do we want the check, NO , just put the boxes down and ran off. Ten minutes later he came back asked about desert, it was almost 8:00 and we said no, can we have two checks. Another five minutes went by and he came back, our friends paid first and then it was my turn, he handed me the little tablet to pay then ran off and came back about a minute later. Grabbed the tablet and ran off. No “thank you”, no “happy holidays”, no “go to hell”, nothing. What an experience. A little over two hours, spending $109.00. Did we leave a tip, yes we did. Why, because in many establishments, sometimes tips are shared. The kitchen did a very good job, our hostess did a very good job, but our server was probably the worst server we have ever had at Market Place. This is not normal, but this is also not right. I’m sure someone in the kitchen knew food was getting cold, comes down to poor management. Surprisingly it seemed like it was slow for Market Place. We mentioned to each other that when it is busy, they are trying in a nice way to give us good service and good food and let’s get this table for the next guest. Disappointed last night. Please get better, please train and support your staff, we want to come back someday, but last night was not a...
Read morePLEASE READ! Last year on October 31, 2023 my husband and I went to dinner as we have been at Market Street Grill before and liked the Prime Rib. We are from Elko, Nevada. When we went in this time we had reservation for dinner at 5. The host said that the dinning area was not open and we would have to sit in the bar area. We said that would be fine and we waited about 15 minutes before anyone came over. When our waiter did finally come over he asked us what we wanted. I told him we had not got menus but we were just going to order the prime rib. My husband ordered the larger piece, and wanted rare and and I ordered the smaller piece, medium well. After waiting for close to an hour our food came out. Our waiter put the food down and never asked if we needed anything else. He was all over the place and jacked up! When I cut into my meat it was raw! and my husbands was well done. I called the waiter over and he said he would get it fixed. 35 minutes later he came out and I had the larger piece, and it was well done and my husband had the smaller piece and it was medium well. Once again we told the waiter they got the meat mixed up and he took it back again. When he came back out They had given his the piece I had and gave me a piece that was rare. At this point we were just disgusted, and decide just to try to eat what we could. I told the waiter that we wanted to talk to the manager and he said that he would not be available for a while. We decide just to pay and call the next day when we got home. When I called I talked to Chris the manager and he said he was very sorry. And that we could come back in for another dinner. I told him I lived he Elko and that I would not be back over till after the new year. He said her would put us on a list for a free meal when we came back. The week of the 9th I call and they said he was off and I told the guy that we were suppose to have a comp for dinner. He said he never seen anything in the books and to call the next day which I did. A lady manger said she was aware of the issue and couldn't do anything till Chris got back on Monday. I told her we would be headed back home on Monday. She said I should of planned better! I sent Chris an email and a copy of the receipt which the girl said that they had nothing showing. He never responded or call us back. This is very poor customer service both on the manager and his mangers. They also need to check their employees for drug use as well. Thanks Chris for...
Read moreWe ordered the Spinach Artichoke Dip, Crispy Calamari, Filet Mignon with a Cold-Water Lobster Tail and Clam Chowder, Latin Spiced Halibut (seasonal), and Strawberry Short Cake. The artichoke dip was a little different than I'm used to and I didn't enjoy it, but the rest of my table did. The calamari was one of the best I've had. The steak and lobster were pretty depressing, but the mashed potatoes and broccoli were good. The clam chowder was fantastic; definitely choose that over the salad. The Latin Spiced Halibut won't be for everyone, but it has good flavor and is prepared well. The strawberry short cake is an S-tier dessert, and a must-order.
Our waitress was nice and offered helpful suggestions, and was prompt with service up until our food was ready at the station. She then became deep in conversation with a coworker for 15 minutes, leaving us twiddling our thumbs and longingly looking at our food under the lights. This wasn't a one-off experience; I've found the staff are usually nice and friendly, but the level of professionalism doesn't match the expected tip on an expensive meal.
The atmosphere is fine, but as with most seafood-centric places, it attracts a primarily senior audience. It's also pretty quiet on the weekdays, as in I questioned if it was still open. Red Lobster is a peg down from Market Street, but I prefer Red Lobster. This place has better appetizers and desserts, but I've been far more satisfied at the cheaper (albeit failing) chain. If I'm going for upscale dining, I'll head downtown for a nice steakhouse where both quality and service will be higher. The price to satisfaction definitely isn't here for me, and I don't plan on coming back. However, if Market Street Grill starts doing takeout orders on the Strawberry Short Cake, I would definitely get that on a...
