First time visit to Purslane on Saturday for lunch. We sat inside by a back window and enjoyed the nice weather. The interior is nicely decorated and unique. Enjoyed the selection of music, which was primarily obscure folk/indy/americana. We ordered the tuna crudo, mild version of the fried chicken sando, and Banh mi, and a large side of fries.
We enjoyed the tuna, especially the acidity, but sometimes it fought with the spicy chili flavor. The seasonings are quite strong, so the essence of tuna is non-essential. It could be any fish, or even non-meat/fish in this particular flavor combination.
The chicken was cooked well, but the presentation was a bit sloppy, making it challenging to eat. The batter on the chicken was crispy, but very dark, suggesting either heavily seasoned batter (which it didn’t taste like) or a need to change the frying oil. See the photo.
Banh mi was okay. There’s a spice in the garlic pork sausage that we can’t quite figure out, but it’s slightly off in the total flavor profile for the seasoned Vietnamese pork. Baguette is not the ultra light and crispy bread typical of the Banh mi sandwich, and as such makes the sandwich a bit dense.
Fries were good, served hot and fresh and large was a perfect sharing size for 2-3 persons.
I would recommend checking out this place. There are a number of interesting dishes on the menu, and we will go back to try their...
Read moreThe new restaurant from the people who have the 'Butterhead' food truck (one of the best) takes their skill and style to a new level. We shared an appetizer that was seriously good. Fresh-made labneh, with pickled root veg, sourdough toasts, and a poached egg was a delicious and really well thought out and executed way to start. I had a roasted pork belly special and she had a Nashville hot chicken sandwich. Food was on point. Service was excellent. Good music with a mix of genres set a mood with the interesting and eclectic art and decor.
The restaurant might be new but the owners aren't new to restaurants. They just got their liquor license, so cocktails are on the way. Currently they serve beer and wine. This is a very impressive addition to the local food scene. Purslane is elevating things in a relaxed way, whether it's a sandwich or something more sophisticated. This is a restaurant that would fit in with the best of Portland, ME or Providence, but it's right in downtown...

Purslane in Wakefield is hands down one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had—and that’s saying something. The steak? Top 5 in the world, without question. Perfectly cooked, seasoned with precision, and melt-in-your-mouth tender. But it wasn’t just the steak that stole the show—every appetizer and course that followed was a masterpiece. The flavors were balanced, creative, and clearly crafted by a chef who knows their way around excellence.
The service was just as incredible. The staff made us feel like we were the only guests in the entire restaurant—attentive, warm, and completely in sync with the vibe of the place. Speaking of which, the vibe is something special: cool, intimate, and totally unique. It manages to be both upscale and welcoming, a rare combo that makes you want to come back before you’ve even left.
Purslane isn’t just a meal—it’s an experience. Easily a new favorite and absolutely worth a...
