Hunan Garden Restaurant — Restaurant in South Lake Tahoe

My family came to South lake Tahoe for the gondola ride and roller coaster. They were hungry..looked on yelp and decided to try this place. The reviews were good..so we drove here.

When we arrived about 1:00..literally it was empty. I was a little suspect...but we decided to stay since we were already there.as we looked over the menu we saw that it was family style. So we each ordered a dish and shared it.

We ended up ordering sweet and sour pork...sizzling beef...walnut shrimp...house chow mein...general chicken..egg rolls and crab Rangoon.

Where to start. The food came out fresh and hot. The egg rolls and crab Rangoon came out first and was very good...crispy and delicious.

The chow mein was 12 95 and came with beef..chicken..shrimp...and pork. There really was not much meat and the flavor was just o.k. I ordered extra general sauce and pit it on the noodles to make them more flavorful...

The walnut shrimp were so good. The sauce was creamy and delicious...I would order it again...15.95

The general chicken was crispy and delicious. The portion was good and came out piping hot. I really like the flavor of the sauce...11.95

My daughter loved loved the sizzling beef. She said the flavor was amazing. It was goid...the meat tender.. the sauce was so good too. 14.95

The sweet and sour pork ...mmmm 11.95

Very good sauce...crispy meat and hot hot hot... if you like sweet and sour pork...you will like this.

My Family and I have been going to Tahoe for all of our lives and somehow we have missed this A+ Chinese Restaurant.

We were in the mood to try something new, and we decided on Chinese food. After we did a search on google, Hunan Garden caught our eye. With a wide range of food from hearty soups to flavorful dishes of rice, orange chicken, chow mein, shrimp (tons of different variations) and the list goes on!

The service was absolutely amazing! We never had to ask for drink refills, our waiter was constantly checking on us to see if we needed anything.

From the time we placed our order to receiving the food was fast. When it comes to portion sizes Hunan Garden doesn’t hold back. We order a variety of things to try out. We are a family of 5 but when the food came, it look like they were serving an army 😅. The food tastes as good as it looks. Everything was cooked to perfection!

You can tell the workers have a lot of pride in what they do. Waiters giving A+ service, the cooks making amazing dishes, and to the busser making sure the restaurant is spotless and it was!

This is my new favorite Chinese food in the Reno/Tahoe area! Definitely a hidden gem tucked away in the forest near Pope Beach, this place has excellent Chinese food and they serve it in a buffet! I tried several things, a nice change of pace from just getting my normal go-to dish, Kung Pao. Their Kung Pao chicken is very flavorful, a little light on the spicy for my taste, but it's got a small kick and I certainly understand keeping the spicy level lower for the masses. I also had chow mein, fried rice, beef with broccoli, hot and sour soup, ribs, crab rangoon, veggie egg roll, some chicken on a stick with awesome sauce and a couple other really tasty dishes of which I don't know the names. They also have sushi, fried fish, salad, and a whole lot more! Everything was very well prepared and delicious! The desserts are excellent as well. I had a chocolate coffee cake, donut, and almond cookie. I can't believe I ate so much! We will be back. This place is well worth the drive from Reno.
