When this place has it together, their pizza is pretty good. I've gone more times than I can count and I've spent thousands of dollars there, as have many of my friends. However, I've had more bad experiences than I'd like and it seems to be getting worse.
The last time I went was in the spring at the start of tourist season. They were slammed and the service was understandably slow, so I waited an hour for my pizza. When it came, though, it was completely raw and the dough stretched like cheese so I just asked for a refund and told myself I'd try again in the fall when they're not so busy. No hard feelings.
It's fall now, so I decided to try it again tonight.
They've had what they call a "local's special" for a bit now which is a discounted pizza and a beer for anyone who lives in town. They used to check your ID to make sure you had a local address.
I asked the waitress if they were still offering it and I was told there's now an app that I have to download. I was a little confused about the whole app thing and started looking for it on my phone, then the waitress asked for my phone number and as soon as I said the area code, she said "I can only accept 775 or 530". I said I have a local address on my license and she said "well anyone can change that, I only accept area codes."
After a little more back and forth confusion I gave up and started walking away and thought to say "just to be clear, I was talking about the locals discount y'all used to offer, are you still doing that?" And she said "yeah but it's a $5/month subscription. I was gonna give you the 'homies' locals discount but only if you've lived here for more than 10 years."
As I was walking out, absolutely bewildered by the interaction, she blurts out completely unprompted, "I was born here!"
I didn't get a pizza.
After I got home, I realized that I think she might've gotten mad at me for asking about the "local's special" which is the exact phrasing they advertise. It seems she was randomly gatekeeping the term "local" even though I was using their own words. Strangest experience I've had at a restaurant. Guess I won't...
Read moreI went with 10 people 5 of them were kids. The atmosphere was very laid back. Unfortunately to much so. We walked in and was greeted by no one. We weren't sure on if we just sat down or approach one of the 3 people working there seeming to just stand around. After some back and forth we found 3 separate tables to use.
We were given no menus but was informed to check there website for it. That was very off-putting since it already seemed like zero care or interest was there.
There menu on line was a bit confusing. Zero sizes listed on the pizza, zero drinks listed and no kids menu. After zero real answers and watching two of the servers seeming to have more interest in each other then anything else we decide to order some pizzas.
We ordered 5 pizzas. We were not sure how many but it seemed to sufficient for the 10 of us. The pizza is freshly cooked and toppings looked to be sorted very well. There is a lot of toppings that you can get. It does get very expensive in a hurry though. $3 per topping and the pizza is $18 for roughly the size of a medium. The pizza it self was mediocre at best. Almost like a take and bake from a grocery store or a frozen pizza. The toppings was minimal and the sauce was almost non existent and the crust was paper thin. They burnt one side of one of the pizzas but we kept it since the kids were hungry and it was the crust that was burnt.
The one highlight is the tap for beer. If you like beer and like different beers that are not your typical beer then this is for you. They have roughly 40 beers on tap. It's on the wall so there is no bartender. They give you a card and that runs you a tab. A very cool idea but it will get you in trouble in a hurry. It's roughly $.60 per oz and the glasses they have are about 20ozs.
With a lack of service, mediocre pizza and prices that seem a bit out of scale for what it is, it's not something I...
Read moreWent here after a hike up Round Top mtn ready to mow down some food. Ordered our food without a hitch, grabbed a beer on tap, and sat down at a table eagerly awaiting our food. We ordered a Buffalo chicken sandwich, potato skins, and Buffalo wings. The wings arrived and my partner and I dove right in, but we also both awkwardly paused when we realized that the wings were still cold. I mean not even close to warm. Straight cold and soggy. Ok ok we thought they are busy so maybe they fudged up. We asked the waiter to feel the wings and she begrudgingly took them back. Ok ok maybe the waitress is exhausted. No big deal. We got informed that we’d get another order of wings and we were appreciative. Well, we ended up getting less wings and guess what, still cold and soggy. I get my Buffalo chicken sandwich and was instantly confused because is was pulled chicken that hardly even filling the bun and was without any sauce. I had to ask for a side of Buffalo sauce to make it anything near resemblance of a Buffalo chicken sandwich. At this point we just shrugged off this experience, but then our “potato’s skins” showed up. We dove right in because we were hungry. Welp, guess what, instantly just looked at each other in disbelief that this was a total sh&$ show. It was a potato’s straight cut in half AND UNDERCOOKED. Three for three straight fails. Look, we live locally full time and have for the past 26 years. We love supporting many local restaurants, but this was our first experience being truly amazed at the poor service and confusion with regards to the food. Maybe they were having an off night, but let me tell you what after that experience I wouldn’t go back nor would I recommended this to place to anyone. Delicious beer and food are plentiful on South Lake. Look elsewhere though. Cheers and May the food gods bless us with delicious food...
