This passed Wednesday I took my friend for a treat at this restaurant, she ordered ceviche mixto, what a disappointment, the fish was ok but the seafood was not fresh, seams like they cook them in advance, therefore the whole ceviche was not married with the seafood, the aspect of it was not invited. Also the seafood of caucau was not made the way it was supposed, I ate it at another restaurant and it was juicy, this one had starch in the juice, we asked if it had starch, and it was what we were told, right what I was thinking. They should train their service people to give a good service by changing their actitud. It looks like they are doing us a favor instead of making us feel welcome and important. They have no idea how some people prepare themselves to dine in a restaurant and expect the best of it, they have to learn to smile and be courteous, you never know who is that person that comes to your restaurant. I am in the service business and take pride of my service by giving the best of me. People that come to a restaurant and leave their money should be appreciated because there is a lot of competition everywhere. So if you want to keep your restaurant open, do your job right, is not about you, it’s about...
Read moreI have been dining at the Chalan for many years ! The food has always been delicious & tasty ! However , today’s the dining experience was very different ! What we order has always been very plentiful & tasty ! I strongly believe there has been changes implemented in management & even the chef ! They now charge for 2 pieces of bread -that was the first noticeable change and a RED FLAG … We order fish ceviche & it was ok ; we also ordered Arroz c/ Marisco ; well that came out with a few pieces of shrimp and 4 pieces of calamari and no fish ; just plain yellow rice !!!! Extremely bland .. We also order the “ Lomo Salteado” our favorite ! It did not have any flavor whatsoever! Very small pieces of steak and a pile of French fries and no sauce ! Usually this dish is one of their signature Peruvian dishes. It just DID NOT have the Peruvian’s seasoning that it is know for . We believe this restaurant is under new management and definitely has a new chef who does not know how to prepare peruvian culinary nor the experience of cooking Peruvian food ! What a shame such a nice restaurant and its lost its sense of taste …. The servers well very nice … To the CHALAN Restaurant- please bring back your original...
Read moreEl Chalan is a family restaurant founded by Mario Abanto.
Enjoy welcoming hospitality with an appetizer plate of Aji verde, the spicy and tangy Peruvian green sauce, and some canche, the snack made by roasting or deep-frying Peruvian corn kernels.
The seafood selections are outstandingly fresh and well prepared. If you enjoy seeing the whole fish served, you will be very happy to see your fish not overcooked, very lightly breaded, and fragrantly fresh. A generous dinner at a fixed price, not at "market rate" or some other mystery. The mixed seafood, jalea mixta, plate is also very generous and good to share. It can be prepared either grilled or (deep) fried.
The ceviche is fresh and authentic.
Especially if ordering a variety of soup, remember to order the optional bread service now returned to el Chalan.
There is a menu with pictures and descriptions to help chose if reading Spanish is a difficulty, or ask the serving staff. They are friendly and have good recommendations.
Food delicious, nice atmosphere, great service & reasonable prices.
It is sometimes crowded, but not too much. People often are coming back, bringing their friends to enjoy this...
