We LOVE Kobe! This is my dad’s favorite restaurant and I am here with him about once a month, even though I know he comes with other people frequently as well. We have never had any issue with the staff/food before tonight. We came in with a party of 12 for my dad’s birthday celebration, with reservation and everyone on time.
We ordered drinks with no problem and when we got to the food there was a little mix up. I order the same thing every time, sharing a kids steak with my small child and ordering an extra soup and salad with a sushi roll (I ordered the salmon roll). The waitress told me there was no need to get an additional soup and salad because it would come with my food. Confused because every other time I’ve been here I do not receive the soup and salad with sushi. But trusted after repeating I wanted the sushi that she understood what I wanted.
Everything seemed cleared up until the cook was double checking everyone’s order, he got to me and said salmon, which I then repeated “yes I am having the salmon sushi roll.” He put salmon on anyways but not thinking twice because I had not paid attention to what the rest of the party had ordered.
When the salmon was done cooking the cook had put it upon my plate. At which point my partner let him know I had order the sushi and not the fillet. The cook seemed to understand the mix up and was going to take the second fillet away. The waitress came around the corner and yelled at the cook to take the fish off of my plate, yelling the whole time “no fish for her” “take it off her plate right now”. He followed her command but looked very uncomfortable taking the food off my plate that I had already been eating off of.
He put the two pieces of fish on a separate plate and to the side, my partner said if he was going to just throw it away that he would eat it. The cook proceeded to slice and serve it to every one at the table and everything was perfect until the checks came and I was charged for both the sushi and the fillets. My partner took the bill to the waitress and asked why we were being charged for both when it was her mistake and the food was shared amongst the whole party. She immediately started yelling and getting in his face. At which point I told her that it’s fine I’m not looking for a fight and will just pay for it being a birthday party at my dad’s favorite restaurant. She did not back down and continued to yell.
I went to find the host and let them know what was going on and asking for a manager, they said the manager wasn’t there that moment but they went back to pull the waitress away from the situation. They ended up taking the fillets off the bill and were both fantastic about handling the situation while not having the power of a manager behind them.
There was absolutely no professionalism from our server and who continued with disrespectful looks and attitude coming off of her the rest of the time we were in the building.
As I said in the beginning of this, we have loved this restaurant and have loved the service before this situation. We would be happy to come back with a different server because we enjoy this place. There is just simply no excuse for this type of attitude and bullying for such a small mistake.
Update: a few days following this incident I received a call offering to make up for this situation. The manager gave me his name and told me to ask for him the next time we were in. We did put going back in off for more than a few months due to the bad taste the last experience left in our mouths. When we went back in I asked for the manager by name and we were seated. There was nothing very special about this donning occasion, all of our food was correct and tasted right. Nothing beyond what you would expect just going in any other day. I do appreciate that they were sympathetic about the situation, but that’s all that it was. They just kind of gave me the feeling they wanted us to remember what it feels like to not be bullied at dinner. We probably won’t be back...
Read moreHands down, amazing food, kind waitresses and talented chefs. This is a beautiful restaurant and you would hope a wonderful location for special events. However, the man and woman that run the front of the restaurant (maybe the potential owners/cannot confirm) do not deserve your business if they can't treat their customers with respect. They keep the business going! We had a birthday party for my friends at this location. They reserved our spot and made sure to have everyone invited rsvp. My friends updated the restaurant of how many people were coming (about 20+ rsvp'd), so we could ensure to get a room reserved. We arrived and waited for our party guests to join us, but call after call came in about how some were not coming due to sickness or other reasons (did not call in to give advance warning). Our reservation of 20+ people became 14. the loss of those people set off this man and woman up front. The woman began to raise her voice at my friend and blamed her for the income loss of the restaurant. She told my friend that she was charging her $100 on her card at the end of the night for the misguided guest quote. My friend couldn't understand the woman due to her heavy accent, so when I explained what she was saying to her, we attempted to explain they had rsvp'd without a cancelation warning. The woman didn't care and then a man came in (also a heavy accent) to join in the mistreatment. At that time, I told my friends that we should leave and not dine at all (which could have ruined our birthday event). I explained to the individuals that if this charge takes place, we will not dine at all and this is part of what happens when running a business. We apologized for the inconvenience, but did not appreciate the retaliation for something that wasn't within our control (took place in a waiting area full of people). The woman continued to raise her voice and stated that it will not be charged this time, but if it happens in the future, there will be a charge for missing guests. For the sake of the celebration, we dined. As a group, we spent over $1000 in this restaurant. It's an expensive establishment and they should be thankful for people that help support their living expenses. After dining for an hour, the entire restaurant was full of people (no vacancies). This was unnecessary mistreatment, especially due to it didn't seem to impact the restaurant finances at all (accommodated more walk ins). An apology for their behavior should be done. These people should be more thankful for their guests before they lose what they have due to mistreating their customers. This situation took place a while ago and I thought long and hard about posting this, but those individuals deserve this rating and review to be known. I do want to thank everyone else for a wonderful night. The workers were wonderful. They deserved a better rating than this. I love giving positive reviews and if it wasn't for this, they would...
Read moreThis establishment has a traditional Japanese look outside and inside of the building. Once you walk in, you are greeted by a host/hostess and taken to your table. On the way over to the table, you pass the sushi bar and a beautiful arrangement of nature and water. The time and effort spent on this center piece of the restaurant can be truly noted and I would advise to take a picture with it or alone. It is definitely a beautiful background that should be seen.
The interior of the place is well-managed. The one thing I enjoy most about the place is the way the tables are sectioned. I sat in the first section of tables and did not have a chance to see the other sections, but what made this experience different than any of my other teppanyaki experiences was not the show, but the way this place was set up. Compared to other teppanyaki places I have seen, this place is not just a continuous line of tables and shows, almost like a cafeteria, but this place has walls to part the noise and other people from you. I believe it increases the teppanyaki experience as when there are no walls, you are able to see someone else's performance before your own from across the room. Throughout the restaurant there are many different decor pieces lining the walls and ceilings to create the authentic atmosphere throughout your dine-in experience.
The show is generally about the same as other teppanyaki places. It comes with the amazing skills of the chef along with some silliness and smiles. These chefs are definitely well-trained and know how to entertain a crowd. The servers were polite and attentive. We were given everything we needed and requested in a timely manner.
I ordered the filet and scallops option that comes with miso soup, salad, and a rice or fried rice option; I suggest you go for the fried rice, even if it is a little extra. The salad has this delicious asian dressing that is not too creamy or too wet. The miso soup tasted different than what I am used to, but it was definitely delicious. I was given my meat first and I asked for it to be cooked medium. It was cooked to perfection; I normally like my meat cooked almost all the way and my meat was cooked all the way without it ever being dry. At the end of the chef's show, I was given my scallops. These scallops were so soft to the touch. This part of my meal was my favorite. The scallops were not overcooked, they were soft, and was a perfect touch to my meal.
I do not travel to the Ogden / South Ogden area very often, however, if you happen to be in the area or if you are looking for a place for a special occasion (as it is pricey, like any other teppanyaki place), I would suggest you visit this place! It will not disappoint with the service, experience,...
