Michezo — Restaurant in South Orange

Good, but not great. If I were in the area I would return as I think overall it’s a solid establishment, just had high expectations from the glowing reviews. Service was A+, checked on us frequently and communicated well. The interior is clean and beautiful; you could tell there was a lot of intention about the design and aesthetics. Food took a while to come out, but when it did it was hot and fresh. A good portion for the price and came in a takeout container; I appreciate the eco-friendly approach because I ended up having plenty leftover. I was expecting the food to wow me more than it did (we got the taquitos, black bean burger, garlic Mac, fries, broccoli). The broccoli and fries were average and garlic Mac didn’t have enough cheesy flavor. I do want to highlight the burger. Having not eaten meat in almost a decade, I’ve had my fair share of black bean burgers and this may be the best one yet. This place is absolutely wonderful!

My husband and I were greeted by a lovely hostess. Even the chef came out and said "hello' to us. Very friendly, upbeat vibe. They were also playing a nice Bob Marley CD.

The place is cafe style, but it's also spacious.

We both ordered the vegan crab cakes. They were phenomenal! On the side there was a vegan mac 'n' cheese and broccoli, which I loved too. The broccoli was done - perfect! I usually don't like having broccoli at a restaurant because they over cook it, but not here! Cooked from scratch, everything was so fresh.

And there was so much I couldn't finish. If you split the meal in half, you could have enough for another meal the next day.

I was so curious about the desserts, but I was stuffed.

The reviews were right! This little gem has some great food!!! Let’s talk about the bean burger OMG best I’ve ever had and the crab less cakes are out of this world the owner nailed it! The side of broccoli was a nice healthy touch and although the Mac isn’t cheesy it is delicious nonetheless! The portions sizes fit the price especially with everything skyrocketing due to inflation. The owner was very nice and friendly which is always a plus! I also appreciate the packaging as it is eco friendly and the wooden utensils was a nice touch! Great job, I’ll definitely be back and I definitely RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT HANDS DOWN!
