The restaurant has what we refer to as Groupon remorse. When you show up with a Groupon they treat you differently than other customers and limit what you can order. We have never seen it so bad as it was a Haruasme. When we told our server we had a Groupon she sighed and said "let me see if I can remember what you can have." The told us we could can have 1 appetizer that is $6.99 or less, 2 regular rolls that are $5.99 or less and 2 speciality rolls that are $11.99 or less. Nowhere on the Groupon does it say you are limited in what rolls you can order. We should have taken the hint and left then and cut our losses. Unfortunately we stayed. When we ordered we asked for the Steve's special roll which was $11.99. Our server said "you can't have that". We asked why since it qualified as being $11.99 or less and she said "it is our special roll (on the white board) so it does not qualify and I don't make up the rules." After we ordered our server told us that here would be a "holdup"with our order" and we asked why and see replied "can't you see how busy we are?" I pointed out that the restaurant was only 1/2 full and she replied "well we have a lot of takeout too"! They never brought us our $6.99 appetizer and our 4 rolls were piled on a single plate without any garnish and was grocery store grade at best. They plates going out to non-Groupon customers looked better. Clearly we were being punished for having a Groupon. To be fair the other server was fairly attentive and offered us more water and asked us if we needed anything else. We can't say how the restaurant treats non-Groupon customers but given the poor/rude service and mediocre food with a Groupon we would not return. They clearly they regret that they signed...
Read moreThis is our favorite local sushi place. For me, the all-you-can-eat menu is helpful, since I tend to like choosing specific sushi, which can end up costing a bunch at other restaurants. The sushi is generally always high quality and the menu addresses one of my pet peeves in the area (greater NYC), which is that many sushi items are listed on the menu, but other restaurants don't actually have the fish available. Harusame pretty much always has what's listed on the menu. My wife likes the cozy atmosphere and the service is very good. Parking can be an issue, since Harusame has a tiny parking lot which is shared with another business. Street parking is normally...
Read moreThe other reviews did not steer me wrong. It is a small place, but good for takeout. I ordered the American Dream and Lobster Tempura roll. Loved the sweet eel sauce, and enjoyed the Lobster roll the most. The spicy sauce on the American dream overpowered the roll and drowned out the crab flavor. But it was tasty nonetheless. The only complaint is that carpet. It has that old carpet odor and needs to be changed. That alone could keep me from returning. My rating is for the food only. Could have been higher if it weren't for poor presentation for the store...
