nice selection, fast service, busy for the time period (after 6 on a Sunday). Got a sampler of one each of a number of things... Napoleon is a staple i pretty much always get, and ask for first, I might add. Excellent with a pastry cream as good as anywhere I have tried.
Choc mousse in some form also a staple of mine, well done tho not standout good, but fine. Got a strawberry mini cake, whipped cream icing and enough for twice its size- and good enough for 2... fresh strawberries and another whipped cream layer inside... not... too... shabby...
got one elephant ears/ palmiers, was good. Think should have been lighter and crispier, myself... but tasty like this, these "meatier" ones are no worse than good ones done more the usual way that I've had over the yrs.
Demerits are from the eclairs and the rum baba. Anything more of a staple in a bakery than an eclair ? No. No there is not...
and yet... Only a few left, they were the little finger size ones- and TBH it didn't taste any better than store-bought ones. Didn't think it was real pastry cream, for one. Frankly, considering the time, I wonder if they ran out of fresh made larger ones and indeed bought these to make more sales. Mistake in my book, should have just said ran out...
Rum baba really disappointing as well. Barely any rum, cake dough certainly not soaking in it like it should- if it was even rum. Not distinctive enough taste of rum that I did wonder. And that... isn't too good right there..
I will go back but if eclairs still crummy, despite the other wonderful items I have tried., that might be it for quite...
Read moreMy family has purchased birthday cakes from Haisch's Bakery for over 20 years. So disappointed in the cake recently purchased. When I brought the cake home, it was an 8" cake but it looked much smaller than usual; previously purchased a b-day cake in May. We finally realized that the cake was much shorter. It was as though the cake layers were almost cut in half. The height of the cake, minus the decorative piping around the top of the cake, was only 3 inches. For $49.95, you certainly expect to get a decent size cake. Be aware that the cake layers are significantly shorter. Certainly feel cheated. This is the last Birthday cake we purchase from Haisch's. There are too many other comparable bakeries that don't short the cake layers. If this is done to Birthday cakes, they ae likely doing it to their other cakes. 1/21/25 - UPDATE Since my initial review, my family has purchased two 8" Birthday cakes . The size of the cakes are back to the size and height that they used to be. The cakes are still very good and we are again pleased...
