Ichiban Sushi and Grill — Restaurant in South Salt Lake

My family wanted sushi so we checked what was by our location and google pulled up this restaurant so we all decided we were in the mood for sushi, but unfortunately that came with bad service and an even more awful table. This was our first dinner we’ve had in 12 years as a family so we did want to make sure that it was going to be a somewhat nice dinner we were under the impression that this was going to be a nice experience (especially for the price!!)

Let’s start with the service because that is where it lacked the most. From the beginning to the end of service the energy felt as though they didn’t want us there — which is odd because you would think they want to make sure we feel welcomed seeing this is how you pay your bills. What was suppose to be a nice dinner turned out to feel like a pushed fast food experience. Then the worst part was when they finally sat my family, they put two tables and pushed them so close to the stairs that behind me wasn’t a wall but open space because there were stairs directly behind me. When there was a perfectly good table on the opposite side that they could’ve used and we didn’t feel like we could ask to move tables since they already seemed annoyed.

I will admit this will be my most critical review and I won’t even say I’m sorry about it because I was truly offended by our waitress who rushed us to order when we weren’t ready…and once we did order she never came back to check on us, not once but to check if we wanted the check. Even my little nephew had to get up and find her because he’d waited so long for her to come back around.

The only reason this is not a one star review is because the food we ordered did taste fresh, a little underwhelming in presentation but the food was just okay

We left hungry as we didn’t want to spend one more single penny there.

This is my favorite restaurant but today was by far the worst experience I've had here. I'm 37 weeks pregnant and I asked for the same thing I ask for everytime I come here which is A Vegas roll, pot Snickers, the sweet and sour dinner I always ask that my sweet and sour chicken comes with the sauce on the side, I've always asked for that and it's never been a problem not once until tonight. I was told no and that they were to busy even though I said I would gladly wait cause that's what I always get. I haven't been able to come here for about a month because of my pregnancy and I was craving them so bad and I waited. My fiance decided to take me here because he knew I wanted them badly. The waiter was so not having it, he literally yelled and said "we can't do that this time, no should have came soone" I've never cried at a restaurant from being so embarrassed by asking for what I always asked for. I'm so shocked at the treatment because of my usual order. I had to order something completely different which was just a small appetizer they could have made more money off me. I just won't eat it while it's covered in sauce. I will never allow this waiter to serve me her again. Keep in mind it's Friday and I ordered at 9:03 pm they don't close until 10:30pm I guess that wasn't enough time to made what I usually ask for. Do not let Levi serve you I usually spend about 50-60$ when I come here because I love this place but I was so afraid to order anything I actually wanted after that so I only spent 39$ this time. Checked this place our with a friend last Friday. All Sushi is 50% which is great but I’ve never understood why restaurants just don’t lower their prices to the 50% price instead of making you think you’re getting a special when it’s not exactly a special because it’s always 50% off. Service was quick. I tried the egg flower soup & it was okay. It was very light & not a ton of flavor. I grabbed 2 vegetarian rolls which ended up being VERY similar to one another & I wasn’t aware of this until they arrived at the table. I likely would have ordered something else if I had know, just for more of a variety. I ordered the Asparagus Avocado Cucumber roll. I really liked this roll! Such a great combo with these three green veggies. I also ordered the vegetarian roll, which essentially was the same thing as the other roll, minus the asparagus & I think it had added lettuce in it. They were so similar though. Would have liked a little more of a variety. My friend ordered the Vegas roll & The Utah Roll. Presentation for both of these rolls were beautiful! The Vegas roll had sauce that was evenly tossed through the entire roll. The Utah Roll had the perfect amount of crab but it was kind of hard to pick up & eat with the chop sticks. It fell apart easily. I would definitely check this place out again for some more vegetarian rolls.
