My husband and I decided to visit this location after seeing a reel on Instagram about the infamous hand pulled noodles and soup dumplings. While we did not order the soup dumplings we ordered a handful of other menu items to indulge in and overall were highly satisfied with our choices.
We made reservations to visit on a weekday and I excitedly wanted to go earlier than our reservation time. To our surprise, we were able to get in immediately. I was surprised at their ordering system which involved scanning a QR code and submitting the order on your own. Although we ordered two appetizers and two entrees, everything came out as it was finished which for us meant me getting served my entree prior to any of the other items. Additionally, the number of staff they had working made sense for the type of ordering system they had in place because the interaction you had with them was minimal - mostly just to run food from the kitchen and refill drinks as needed.
Our meal consisted of an order of the crab rangoons, pan-fried pork buns, shrimp fried noodles for me and the spicy tonkatsu ramen for my husband. I have a pescetarian diet, but lean vegetarian a lot, so I would note that the vegetarian options were pretty slim. Hence why although I am a giant fan of ramen, I did not order the one vegetarian ramen option because it was a tomatoey broth.
First off, the crab rangoons had good flavor, but were very overcooked. To the point where biting into them was beyond just a nice layer of crunch and almost a fight to bite through. My husband enjoyed the fried pork buns, and I might add that the cook on them was beautifully executed. The star of my meal was definitely the shrimp fried noodles. You really could tell that the noodles were made in-house and it made the whole dish that much more elevated for what it was! They also had this side table house made chili oil that was exceptional! They also offer it as something you can order on the menu which is smart because it was delicious. My husband said his spicy tonkatsu ramen was delicious and he tends to enjoy spice and will even add extra spice to his broth, but the broth for his dish seemingly was enough on its own.
Overall, we would still return, but very specifically if we had a hankering for the exact items we had already previously had on this visit. It is my own fault due to my chosen diet, but their options for me are very limited, albeit delicious!! I think even considering the overcooked crab rangoons, I would still reorder them in hopes for a better batch the second...
Read moreWe had decent first in person visit a few weeks ago but this recent visit was horrible.
Came on a Friday early September around 6 pm and the AC wasn't on. The restaurant was hot (90 degrees outside in the shade with light breeze would have been much cooler). On top of that they sat someone reeking of BO behind us (restaurant was only at like 30% cap. Without air circulation this smell and heat made it hard for us to finish our meal.
Speaking of the meal, I ordered the same thing as I did the first time as we generally enjoyed it (more than our take out order a few years back). The food this time didn't even come close to the last experience. I really enjoyed the Chinese braised beef noodles. The sauce was rich, the hand pulled noodles were springy, and the braided beef was melt in your mouth. I just wished I had more to eat. I ordered the same dish this time and it was like I got bait and switched. The sauce became more like watered down broth, not rich and flavored at all. The hand pulled noodles were a bit mushy and the beef, though still somewhat soft, was a bit stringy/fibrous and did not melt in my mouth. I probably could have finished this but the heat and the smell of the new guests made it impossible.
The other repeated dish was the soup dumplings, Xiao long bao. To be fair it didn't wow me the last time I had it either but it wasn't bad and my kids and wife liked it so that's why they wanted to come back. Another very disappointing experience. the disappointment with it stems mainly in the soup inside. It was sour and tasted pretty vinegary. My kids had 1 and we had to coerce them into eating a 2nd one so that they don't leave with an empty stomach. Looking back I'm not sure if ours wasn't spoiled. The staff today did not have a single smile. I can usually overlook staff friendliness if the food makes up for it, but a friendly staff would make a horrible food experience at least less unpleasant. The last time the staff working were all friendly and talkative. This is a total 180.
With food this inconsistent, I don't know if I would come back and for sure I would not be recommending this place.
We went home that night with hungry kids and just steamed up some frozen Mila Xiao long baos instead which...
Read moreDisgusting food, rude waitress, not deserve its name at all. Let me tell you why I gave a one-star review. Firstly about the food, I ordered a plate of fried noodles with beef. As soon as the food is served, there is a smell of sesame oil in it. The fired noodle tasted more like drinking sesame oil while eating the noodles. At least it was disgusting to me, so in the end I just eat all the beef and left all the noodles. I don't know which eye of the you saw that I finished eating all my food, that one must not working. Secondly, the waitress. She hasn't even looked at us since we sat down until we left. To give some examples: 1. The fried noodles I ordered at the beginning couldn’t be cooked, she came to me and asked me, “Which one of you ordered sliced noodles? We don’t have sliced noodles today, why don’t you change them.” She stood next to me and stared out of the window and said the sentences above. Not only did she not feel sorry that they cannot serve the thing I ordered, she even made me feel contemptuous. 2. I handed the bill and credit card to the same waitress next to me as we were about to leave. Since my back was turned to her, I didn't see her clearing the table behind me. But she replied angrily, "Wait!" Then she turned her head and left. I think this is a situation where you can say "sorry I'm clearing the table, can I get the bill later?" instead of yelling at me rudely. 3. Just seeing the above situation, I can simply understand that she is in a bad mood today. But I swear that when I was ordering, she enthusiastically introduced how to order by scanning codes to the Native Americans at the next table. As a Chinese, I was really annoyed to be treated like this in a Chinese restaurant. Before we left the table, I overheard her telling the other waiters that the next table only tipped $5. To be honest, I also only gave $5. Because you only deserve to earn these five dollars for your services. If you feel wronged by being a waitress, then don't be a waitress, no one is forcing you to serve here, and nobody need your...
