WORST EVER!! TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT AND FOOD. If only we could give 0 stars, this would be the place. Management only cares about the money!!!!! My father wanted to spend his 80th birthday at this location and we've held many receptions here. We had the WORST experience EVER!!!! My family and I came to reserved some tables for a party of 30 or more a little over week ahead and this place even required a deposit. We put our deposit down and we ordered the birthday set dinner. NOT ONCE did the Manager MENTION there was an EVENT the same night of our party. Everything went downhill from the moment we step foot into the restaurant. We walk in and the ENTIRE restaurant was completely packed with some KARAOKE/LIVE band. They seated us upstairs along the glass railing over looking the party below. There was NO way we can go to another restaurant, who will take such a large party in such a short period time. We were stuck there, we had no choice but to stay. BEWARE, they switched the menu from what we originally ordered, their online menu was showing what we ordered in advance, but the menu they had that night was completely different. When we asked about it, they brushed it off by making a statement "you won't get that on a $538 set menu" making us sound like we are too cheap to have ordered the more expensive banquet meal. That's not the BEST PART. During our meal there was MUSIC AND SINGING that were EXTREMELY LOUD!! I felt like the performers were screaming into the microphone. Also, they had technical MIC problems, and you KNOW that SOUND!! It can burst a persons eardrum! NO ONE rushed to fix the MIC. I still have the ringing in my ears. The whole night I asked the servers to ask the manager or sound engineer to turn it down, they IGNORED US! We couldn't have any conversations, the dinner was RUSHED and the food was COLD! We asked for the manager when they gave us the bill. No apologies were given, instead the most ridiculous thing Management told us was that they couldn't control the sound or the event?!!!!. WELL THEN, you should not be taking reservations when there an event. GUESS WHAT, they're having the same party again in...
Read moreWe decided to go here for lunch today, and noticed they had a lunch menu on their website. We we got there we were very overwhelmed by the decor.. chandeliers..white table cloths.. white drapes from the ceiling... i guess i wasnt expecting this from this sort of establishment. We felt very under dressed in shorts and flip flops but were quickly seated. The server handed us 1 menu and it only had a few family meals and lots of dim sum on it. We weren't prepared to pay $22-$28 dollars a dish because like previously stated we were looking for a lunch place. I asked the server if they had theblunch menu that was on their website. He said ya and walked aeay. He brought us back 1 menu again. .. and walked away... the lunch specials say "to go" on the menu but nothing about being a lunch special... most lunch specials are smaller portions and quick bites so you can get in and out.
We ordered 2 plates off of the "to go" section and 2 dim sum items.
The food took about 15 minutes to come out.. and it came out all separate.. 1 item at a time. So we waited for everything to be delivered to start eating.
The food was good and yes its pricey..even for lunch we spent $60. The portions are adequate so that's good.
The reason for 3 star was for service.. it wasnt inviting. No one checked on us after the food was dropped.. no one offered refills..someonewas messing with the microphone system and it was extremely loud and annoying...everyonein the restaurant was looking around trying to figure out why they were doing this with almost every...
Read moreThis restaurant is the only place to get dim sum on Grand in South San Francisco. It may not be the best dim sum ever, but it's really not bad.
Ha Gow - Skin was a bit too soft, and the stuffing wasn't seasoned well, although it had a good firm texture. There wasn't any young bamboo to accentuate the sweetness of the shrimp so it was a little on the bland side.
Siu Mai - Again, the texture of the pork stuffing was good and smooth, but there wasn't enough shrimp or mushrooms to give it a more rounded and complete flavor profile.
XLB - I liked that the skin was thin and delicate, but the stuffing was under-seasoned and wasn't very soupy. I enjoy tasting ginger and green onions in XLB, but I couldn't really detect that much here.
Steamed Spareribs - Pretty good. The little pieces of spareribs were tender and flavorful. The black bean sauce was strong enough to coat the spareribs in salty goodness.
Salty Fish and Chicken Fried Rice - The rice was cooked well, but it could've been more pungent. The salted fish that they used was a little too dry, and not enough was used to make it more aromatic. It still wasn't bad, though.
Clam Porridge - I thought this was the best thing at lunch. The rice porridge was thick, rich, and filled with large, fresh clams. I liked the addition of pickled mustard green stems, which provided a contrast to the fresh sweetness of the clams. The portion size was pretty...
