Let me start by saying the only reason this place doesn't get a five star is because of the wait. In fairness my friend and I were there on Valentine's day so we had extreme patience with the servers. I had a reservation for 2 and when we arrived they tried to seat us at the bar (on Valentine's Day!). We said we would wait for a table, that took about 15 minutes but it was well worth the wait. Once we were seated it took about 25 minutes or so for the waitress to come get our orders. We had prepared in advance and ordered all courses in that first round so that the food could just steadily come out. We had the ginger salad, the dressing was one of the best I have ever had. Next we shared the Sweet and Sour Soup, it was absolutely delicious, lots of flavors and textures and had a bite! Our appetizers were both sushi and we found them to be excellent and fresh. For Entree's I had the filet which I found to be one of the BEST I have ever had in my life. I brought some home and I was able to cut it with a plastic knife the next day after warming it up! My friend got the Tempura which was also delicious. The sauces were all spectacular as were the roasted vegetables. My only complaint was A. our reserved table wasn't ready and B. The time it took to get through the meal. While we enjoyed our evening it was a 2 hour and 15 minute meal. I feel like 1 hour and 45 minutes MAXIMUM for our courses would have felt more comfortable. Generally speaking we loved it and we will be...
Read moreTable for two, I and my adult son. While I have dined there for lunch maybe a half dozen times and very much enjoyed the Lunch Bento Box, this was my first dinner experience and we were both in the mood for sushi. I'm happy to say the sushi was uncommonly good - in our case garlic white tuna appetizer, Roll Combo A, and the Sushi/Sashimi Combo for one plus a few nigiri samples and throw in a side salad or two. Our compliments to the sushi chef for the fine sushi/sashimi combo presentation, generous portion of fresh fish in the rolls, all plates artfully executed, abundant and very tasty. Definitely fresh! As all are aware, in a sushi establishment food handling is as important (if not moreso) than actual food preparation. The prep area was spotless, continually attended, the floors and tables well looked after, and the bathroom was clearly well serviced. I have enjoyed Japanese restaurants for many years and would offer that Sumo prepared dishes rank among the top dozen in my experience, including those in NYC and Philadelphia, where not surprisingly I have paid considerably more $$ for the experience. Sumo earns its 5 stars, and I believe it is a well above average value, defined as the sum total of the dining experience compared to the price...
Read moreComing at lunch time is always incredible. But every time I go to dinner it is a negative experience. Tonight was no exception. Starting with when we got sushi that had rancid vegetables in it. Our options provided to us were to either to only get two rolls instead of three with the 3 roll combo but no decrease in cost, or to accept the sushi halfway made the way intended. When asked for a replacement roll we were told that would not be an option. We could pay for another roll if we wanted but they could not make the same roll that was rancid because they didn’t have more veggies and that we couldn’t replace it. The rice my sushi was made of was old, hard, and crunchy. But I must say the fish was very fresh, but paired with crunchy stale rice it was a waste of great fish. When it came to our appetizer we had to remind them three times before we finally got it. We ended up getting it as we were finishing dinner. And that’s not to forget the extremely rude waitress we had (this is besides them refusing to deal with their issue) who snapped at us while we tried to order and rolled her eyes during every single encounter.
But again...when I go for lunch it is always amazing staff, amazing service, amazing food so I have no idea why I always have...
