Today was my first time at Soup Dive. There was no one to greet me upon entry. There's a kiosk for ordering. Lack of personal interaction was a little off-putting, but I realize that is the wave of the future. It may be more efficient and cost saving, but definitely no "warm fuzzy". After a couple of minutes, a lady emerged from the back and told me to let her know if I had any questions. Then, she returned to the back.
The kiosk was easy to navigate with detailed descriptions of the menu items. I ordered the black eyed peas and kale soup, and I added cornbread. The soup was very tasty. However, there were exactly three small pieces of kale. That didn't look like the picture! I was looking forward to the kale. Good thing I really like black eyed peas.
The cornbread was also tasty. It was tightly fit inside a small plastic baggie. It broke as I tried to pull it out of the bag. Unfortunately, the top of the cornbread stuck to the bag. I was scraping the top from the inside of the bag.
These disappointments are the reason for 4 stars, and they are minor compared to the great taste. However, I won't make a special trip to return. I made a special trip today. If I'm in the area,...
Read moreI use to frequent this place a few years back when I worked in the area. I recently went for lunch in the area so decided to visit just yo support a black business even though I was crazy full. The food did not disappoint as it never does. However, the prices sure did increase and it seems beyond unreasonable. As a consultant working with many billion dollar industries I understand inflation and I understand the need to raise prices however, as many other businesses have done so it seems like they overly raised the prices to turn a larger profit. To pay $12 for not even a medium size container is absolutely ridiculous. The size isn’t even enough to get full off of. For $12 you should be able to afford an entire meal with a drink. The bowl comes alone with no drink and any add on is in addition. In the end I received an 8 ounce and I believe 12 ounce bowl for $20. That is extremely overpriced in my opinion. I only hope that this business will avoid taking the predatory route and stop trying to take advantage of already inflated cost in this country. I highly doubt that I will revisit unless their prices are altered to...
Read moreGreat service and food spoiled by poor value. Unless you drop $12-15+ here on lunch, expect to be hungry not long after you leave. I appreciate their emphasis on quality ingredients, but some of the items and soups are grossly overpriced. The wraps are too small and some of the soups have way too much broth or too little meat to be worth $8-9.
I strongly urge taking advantage of the 20% loyalty program if you bring your receipt within 3 days after your last visit. Helps take the sting out of what is still expensive. This place is ideal if you aren't too hungry, are a light eater, or just need a quick quality bite. Relying on it as a regular lunch option will destroy your wallet.
Another annoying business practice is they intentionally conceal full menu pricing. Most items you have to ask what they cost. This tactic probably works on getting customers to spend more, but it's annoying and I don't agree with it.
Even for a simple carryout, you will also be persuaded to tip 15-20% on your order. Kudos to this business though if their model works for them! I would love to dine here more if they cut 20% off...
