Agave Grill & Bar — Restaurant in Southgate

I appreciated that this restaurant was open late, till 10pm, thats a plus. I walked in at 9 and placed an order. The place was very inviting and I was greeted immediately. I ordered chicken chimichangas and the burrito agave for my son (who's 18) and the bill came to $39 and some change which is a bit pricier than some of the other local mexican restaurants in the area, but not by much. All the food had very good flavor.. the beans and rice were tasty and the salsa was really flavorful and chunky. My only dissapointment was that my chimichangas were soaked in a cheese sauce, I expected a nice crispy deep fried outer shell but they were soggy in cheese. I am not a fan of cheese sauce and prefer the real stuff instead. Had it stated that in the menu, I would have asked for none. The chicken however was moist and tasty and not dry like other places can be. Overall, I would like to give this place another chance with a different menu item to give a final review. My son enjoyed his burrito priced at $19.99, which is a bit pricey, although it did include steak, chorizo and shrimp.

**update... ok so I visited Agave again, this time we ate in the restaurant and I have to say, my food gets 5 stars!! I ordered the Tacos De Barbacoa and they were the best Ive had in a while. I did speak to them about the soggy chimichangas and we agreed that those are probably not the best thing to order to go. Between the cheese and the container they just weren't at their best. But anyhow second time around.. my friend got the fajitas and raved about the consistency of the meat. She said they were perfect, the steak and chicken were both tender and juicy. And my tacos had the best flavor as well. I highly recommend you try this hidden gem in southgate and you have to try the coconut...

Hot n New just open a week ago, corner of Eureka and Dix. Family from Vera Cruz Mexico, different flavors from the Jalisco n Mexico City owners Downriver. Full Bar with fancy Mexican Drinks and Beers, place should be a hit soon. Fantastic lunch prices with Free Hot Chips and marvelous Salsas, OMG the Salsa Verde served warm My instant addiction. We started with the Mexican Trio of dips, perfect for sharing. It's Queso Fundio, Guacamole and Cheese dips, spot on wonderful 😊. She had the lunch Fajitas outstanding Delicious 😋. OMG! This place was AMAZING!! Our server was Grace (I asked so I could give her kudos!) & she was great! Very attentive and super friendly. We tried the shrimp and chicken fajitas and they were perfect! The shrimp was cooked perfectly and both had flavor! It had onion, peppers and tomatoes that were also grilled and they were so good I'd order just the veggies as a side if I could! The sangria is house made and was not overly sweet, it was very good. The ceviche was great and fresh. The chips are fresh, but not greasy. The beans (soooo smooth) and rice are perfect.
