It's decent Chinese, but certainly not for the prices they charge. Here's a simple breakdown of what was ordered.
#1 - Cream Cheese Rangoon ($8) This should have been a surefire hit. It was at least double what most places charge for the quantity. It managed to be neither crispy nor chewy and most of the filling had leaked out during the frying. The sauce lacked the sweet tang that the dish craves. (1/5 rating)
#2 - Steamed Pork Dumplings ($12) I was expecting a bit more for this price as well. They were surprisly small and limited in quantity. The dumpling was too thin and fell apart immediately when picked up with chopsticks. No sign of scallions or ginger as advertised. The pork seemed, well, off in flavor. (1/5 rating)
#3 - Shrimp in Hot Garlic Sauce ($24) This was pretty decent. Good enough flavor and the shrimp was nice and tender. Was not spicy in the least, but fortunately our server gave us some extra hotter chili sauce. It was a good vegetable medley. Once again, not the money's worth of food. (3/5 rating)
#4 - Orange Beef ($27) The flavors and textures in this dish were fantastic. It was loaded heavy with vinegar, and fortunate for me I love vinegar. They cleaned the beef well and fried it to perfection. Could have used a bit more steamed broccoli to cleanse the palette. Once again to high of price for the quantity. (4.5/5 rating)
Overall, service was good and the atmosphere was nice enough. I was a bit confused to hear basic classic rock in a place that touts itself as a higher-dining establishment. The total came to $71 before taxes (about $100 after taxes and gratuity). It was just a lunch date with the wife. We left not hungry, but not terribly full. No leftovers (contrary to expected) from this high price of a meal.
If you asked me what I would consider a fair price, I would half everything. The food was good, but not stellar. Not $100 worth for sure. Unfortunately I won't be returning to be duped into paying such a rate twice, unless they somehow convince me otherwise that they fixed their quality or quantity...
Read moreCame here on a Saturday around 1:30pm and the place was packed. Didn't take too long for our party of 2 to be seated. It's a very vibrant atmosphere that reminds me of the dim sum places back in LA. Just a bunch of chattering in the background.
Dumpling sampler (pork, chicken, vegetable, 3 delicacy): honestly I got this for the picture. How can I resist not having a photo of rainbow colored food? The chicken dumpling (yellow) was just alright. The vegetable (green) was delicious and it's something I would order again by itself. The pork (white) tastes like the steamed juicy dumplings just without the soup. The three delicacy (red) had a very strong shrimp flavor to it, but couldn't really taste anything else. 4.5/5.0
Braised beef noodle soup: hand pulled noodles. The chef was near the kitchen hand pulling the noodles and slamming it onto the table. If you're easily startled by random loud noises, you've been warned. Broth was a bit bland for my liking. The hand pulled noodles were very chewy. This is my first time seeing beef noodle soup with broccoli, which was kinda odd. The braised beef was very tender and flavorful. 3.5/5.0
Fried string beans Szechuan style: perhaps the most disappointing item of the day. The beans lacked the crispiness and was just a tag bit over cooked. The flavor is there, but the texture isn't. 3.8/5.0
Steamed juicy dumplings: I am pretty sure these are just constantly being made in the kitchen. Our order came out shortly after we ordered. It arrived steamy and as the name suggests, it's juicy. The soup squirts out after your first bite. Eat it with the vinegar, it'll make it more delicious. 5.0/5.0
Parking lot had a decent amount of parking spaces.
Overall it was a pretty good experience. Redeeming factors include great customer service and attentiveness. The dumplings were delicious. I would come back to try the other hand...
Read moreFirst time at the Dragon House today and it will not be my last! Picked up my mom from the airport and headed here for dinner. Upon walking in you are greeted by delightful smells of fresh vegetables and noodles. We were warmly greeted by a hostess and shown to a booth table. We were both given menus and looked over the dim sum and their main menu. Everything sounded so good! My mom decided to order their dumpling sample platter and moo goo bai pan. I ordered their broccoli chicken.
The dumplings came out first and in a cute basket. The gentleman who brought them kindly explained the differences in the colorful dumpling platter. We got a veggie, pork and shrimp, shrimp, and chicken. Omg, wow, once the top came off of the basket it was steam and deliciousness. Every bite of the veggie and pork and shrimp dumplings just melted in my mouth! I wanted to keep eating them, but I stopped myself as I knew I had my meal coming.
My mom and I could've shared our food as we pretty much ordered the same thing and the sizes were large. We definitely will be eating on these plates for a couple of days. The broccoli chicken and pan were just delicious--super flavorful and not salty at all. Both had just the right amount of flavor. Again I wanted to keep eating, but my stomach stopped me! To end our meal we had some amazing Jazmine tea.
The service was amazing as well with our servers giving us time to eat and sip our tea. It was just overall a relaxing and pleasurable experience. I love how everything was super fresh and delicious. Their noodles and dumplings are made in house and you can hear them slapping and rolling the noodles as you eat.
Dinner is a little pricey, but it is worth the splurge because the food is so good! They do have lunch where it is a little less expensive, but the portions are smaller. Well, I cannot wait...
