Read moreMy 1st time there was about an hour ago 1PM'ish on 5-16. I would have mentioned the pleasant young lady at the drive thru by name if I'd caught it. It was refreshing to see a real smile at a drive-thru for a change! Coffee was great too. The only thing I wasn't wild about was being muscled/guilted into a 20-30% tip on a Togo coffee before I'd even gotten coffee. I'm not sure when everyone started expecting big tips on boxing some food or a togo beverage. If not that then places want a donation for something. It's a high % for minimal service and everyone is broke right now. This young lady was well worth it but when an establishment asks for this before your food or drink comes you feel like you have to tip high because you don't have anything yet. I really hate this practice because when someone has a lousy attitude it feels like extortion and if you don'ttip big your order is at risk. I worked in restaurants for 15 years and lived on tips so I'm a big tipper anyway. It makes sense for waiters but 20-30% on Togo coffee is kind of nuts. I think if they are going to start requiring big tips on Togo orders they should give you that device after you have actually gotten something. It would encourage good service instead of that "what the hell are you doing here" look that has become so common. So 5 stars for the nice girl at the drive-thru and the coffee and 1 star for asking for something before providing...
Read moreI am from Mobile and I have been going out of my way to explore coffee shops across the bay to find a new atmosphere and a short getaway. After a couple visits I noticed that it just depends on who takes your order but some workers are friendly and some are not. I kept coming back because I enjoyed the spacious and neat environment which I was able to study for an hour or two comfortably. During one of my visits over 1 week ago an incident occurred that sparked me to write a review. I am not sure who it was but I assume he was some sort of manager there. He walked up to me and basically accused me of sitting in their shop without purchasing anything to contribute to the store while bringing in outside beverages and asked me to buy from the store. He came into the shop after I purchased and finished my drink which I threw away once I was finished with. I especially appreciated this place for it's friendly study environment but after this incident I just do not feel welcome. 20 minutes commute just does not seem...
